  • Sharks' Timothy Liljegren: Two helpers in return

Liljegren notched two assists and two blocked shots in Saturday's 7-3 loss to the Lightning. Liljegren returned from missing five games due to an upper-body injury. Any plans to ease him in ended when Shakir Mukhamadullin (undisclosed) left the contest early -- Liljegren ended up logging 21:39 of ice time. Liljegren's up to six helpers, 18 shots on net, 65 blocked shots, 26 hits, 18 PIM and a minus-10 rating over 29 appearances. The 26-year-old's defense still needs some work, but he could be in line for power-play usage as long as he can stay healthy, though that role could shrink once John Klingberg (lower body) gets back in action.

  • Sharks' Timothy Liljegren: Slated to return Saturday

Liljegren (upper body) is slated to play Saturday versus Tampa Bay, per Sheng Peng of San Jose Hockey Now. Liljegren missed five straight games due to the injury. He has four assists, 18 PIM, 25 hits and 63 blocks in 28 appearances with San Jose this season. His anticipated return to the lineup might coincide with the exit of John Klingberg (undisclosed), who is doubtful for Saturday's game.

  • Sharks' Timothy Liljegren: Not playing Wednesday

Liljegren (upper body) won't play against Minnesota on Wednesday, per Sheng Peng of San Jose Hockey Now. Liljegren is still day-to-day and will miss his fifth straight game. He has registered four assists, 18 shots on goal, 63 blocked shots and 25 hits in 28 appearances this season. If Shakir Mukhamadullin (lower body) is unavailable to play against the Wild, Nick Leddy will probably draw back into the lineup after being a healthy scratch for the last two games.

Liljegren will miss his third straight contest after sustaining an injury during a morning skate Dec. 20. The 26-year-old defenseman's status hasn't been updated yet, so it's safe to assume he remains in the day-to-day category. His next chance to play is Monday versus the Ducks.

  • Sharks' Timothy Liljegren: Adds two helpers in win

Liljegren notched two assists, three shots on goal, three hits and a plus-3 rating in Thursday's 5-2 win over the Sharks. Liljegren has earned all three of his assists over the last three contests. The 26-year-old had a hand in goals by Alex Wennberg and Tyler Toffoli in this game. Liljegren's power-play time tends to vary depending on if Sam Dickinson is in the lineup, and the Sharks have a decision to make since Dickinson has now played in nine games and will burn the first year of his entry-level deal if he makes a 10th appearance. If Dickinson is ultimately reassigned to his junior team, Liljegren's fantasy value would get a boost. Liljegren has added eight shots on net, 10 hits, 18 blocked shots and an even plus-minus rating through eight appearances.

Liljegren looks poised to spend most of his time this season in a top-four role with a chance to feature on a power-play unit.
