  • Maple Leafs' Easton Cowan: Four points in last five games

Cowan scored a goal Saturday in a 7-2 victory over the Penguins. William Nylander set up Cowan, who was off-balance in the right circle and made no mistake on a one-timer. Cowan is looking more and more comfortable in a top-six deployment since his return from the AHL, and he has four points (two goals, two assists) and 11 shots in his last five games.

  • Maple Leafs' Easton Cowan: Nets late equalizer

Cowan scored a goal on three shots and added two hits in Wednesday's 2-1 overtime win over the Blue Jackets. Cowan tallied with 3:17 left in the third period to answer a Zach Werenski goal. Over five games since he was recalled from AHL Toronto, Cowan has earned a goal and two helpers, one point shy of matching his total from his first stint in the NHL this season. Overall, the 20-year-old has two goals, five assists, 28 shots on net, 17 hits and a plus-4 rating over 15 appearances. There will be some bumps in the road as the rookie adjusts to the NHL, but he should get sufficient ice time to make his presence felt.

  • Maple Leafs' Easton Cowan: Back in NHL

Cowan was recalled from AHL Toronto on Friday. Cowan spent two games with the Marlies, picking up one assist. He started the season with the Maple Leafs and had one goal and three assists in 10 games. Cowan will likely see bottom-six minutes upon his return to the lineup.

  • Maple Leafs' Easton Cowan: Sent to minors

Cowan was assigned to AHL Toronto on Wednesday. Cowan saw fairly regular playing time with the Maple Leafs over the first few weeks of the year, recording a goal, three assists, 13 hits and four blocked shots while averaging 12:33 of ice time in 10 appearances. The Maple Leafs needed a roster spot to activate Scott Laughton (lower body) from injured reserve in a corresponding move. However, Cowan will be a candidate to rejoin the big club at some point in the season.

  • Maple Leafs' Easton Cowan: Replaced on top line

Cowan was charged with five giveaways in Thursday's 2-1 overtime win over the Rangers. The rookie struggled and was ultimately replaced on the top line by Bobby McMann late in the game. Cowan has plenty of potential, but it's a huge leap from the OHL to the NHL.

  • Maple Leafs' Easton Cowan: Recalled by NHL club

Cowan was recalled by the Maple Leafs on Wednesday. Cowan was sent to AHL Toronto on Monday, but he'll rejoin the NHL club ahead of Wednesday's Opening Night matchup against the Canadiens. The 20-year-old was productive with OHL London last year, recording 29 goals and 40 assists over 46 regular-season appearances before generating 13 goals and 26 assists across 17 postseason outings. He'll likely have an opportunity to make his NHL debut early in the 2025-26 campaign.

  • Maple Leafs' Easton Cowan: Heading to AHL

Cowan was loaned to AHL Toronto on Monday. Cowan contributed two assists and eight shots on goal in five preseason outings, and he will begin his professional career in the minors. However, it wouldn't be surprising if he made his NHL debut at some point this campaign.

  • Maple Leafs' Easton Cowan: Strong game but still no points

Cowan got to skate with his boyhood idol, Mitch Marner, and Max Domi against Montreal on Thursday. Cowan didn't hit the scoresheet but did impress. The trio created eight scoring chances and controlled 84.4 percent of the expected goals at 5v5. But in reality, games aren't decided based on expected goals. Cowan hasn't picked up a point during the preseason. The diminutive 19-year-old must work on his strength -- he got pushed off the puck a few times, and he had the puck stripped a few times by average NHL defenders. But that will come. Cowan needs more development time, but he sure is fun to watch.

  • Maple Leafs' Easton Cowan: Coach impressed with effort

Cowan has impressed Leafs general manager, Brad Treliving, during rookie camp, reports the Toronto Sun on Wednesday. Cowan produced 34 goals and 62 assists in 54 regular-season games last season with OHL London, and he followed it up with 10 goals and 24 assists in 18 playoff contests. He's already shown he can stand out with two strong rookie games versus the Habs freshmen. Cowan is fast with intense compete, and he doesn't cut corners in his own zone. Still, Treliving is a tough customer and doesn't mince words: "He has produced in junior and the one thing watching the rookie games, this guy works. Having said that, he needs to be detailed... He needs to show us that he doesn't [still have junior habits]." Cowan will compete for a bottom-six role in training camp and could get a nine-game audition with the big club. Or stay, depending on his game. He remains eligible to return to the OHL for 2024-25.
