MLS 2017 schedule released: Important dates, what to know
The league gets started again in March
The 2017 MLS schedule was released by the league on Thursday, and things get going on Friday, Mar. 3 when the Portland Timbers host league newcomers Minnesota United. Reigning champs the Seattle Sounders open up a day later on the road at Houston, and the regular season ends on Decision Day -- Oct. 22.

Here's what else you need to know about the schedule.
Break for Gold Cup
The Gold Cup returns this summer to the United States, and the league will have a break during the group stage from July 7-16.
MLS play will return on July 19 during the knockout stage.
Atlanta United's debut
Atlanta plays its first ever game on March 5 against the New York Red Bulls at home.
MLS Cup rematch
The rematch between Seattle and Toronto arrives on May 6 in the Pacific Northwest. Last year's MLS Cup, which was played in Toronto, was won by Seattle in penalty kicks.
Galaxy sharing venue
No, no. It's not with Chivas USA. The LA Galaxy will be sharing the Stubhub Center with the Los Angeles Chargers. Confused? Didn't hear? Yeah, the NFL's Chargers franchise is moving to the city of angels from San Diego.
