Greiner cleared waivers and elected free agency Monday.
Greiner has looked more like organizational depth than a legitimate backup catcher throughout his four seasons in the majors, hitting .201/.274/.309 in 477 trips to the plate. His 84 wRC+ in 2021 for the Tigers was a career high but was aided by an unsustainable .400 BABIP and came in a small sample of just 82 plate appearances. He'll likely be stuck searching for a minor-league deal on the open market.
