Gallardo allowed two earned runs on four hits and two walks over 3.2 innings in Friday's 5-2 loss to the Astros. He also recorded a strikeout.
Shifted back to the bullpen Sept. 5 for scenarios such as Friday's -- when returning starter James Paxton (pectoral) only lasted 1.1 innings -- Gallardo faltered, allowing RBI singles to Josh Reddick and Cameron Maybin. The veteran right-hander had worked a scoreless inning in his bullpen return last Sunday, but he'll likely be deployed in a multi-inning capacity more often than not for what's left of the regular season.
