Royals pitcher James Shields shined in a win Monday, giving up just three hits and one walk in seven scoreless innings while striking out 10 in his team's 6-0 victory over the Rays.
Shields (9-4) took it to his former team Monday, posting his first quality start since June 15 and his first double-digit-strikeout outing since April 17. Though he struggled through an uneven June, Shields owns a 3.71 ERA and 102:27 K:BB ratio in 123 2/3 innings. He's scheduled to make his last pre-break start Saturday against the Tigers.
