Jason Motte throws off a mound Wednesday

According to FOXSports.com, Cardinals reliever Jason Motte threw off a mound Wednesday, marking the first time he had done so since undergoing Tommy John surgery on May 7. Motte was with the team for the World Series, and he threw from the visitors' bullpen at Fenway Park.

Motte, who is targeting a return early next season, did not pitch in 2013, but he saved 42 games for the Cardinals in 2012.
