Angels relief pitcher Ryan Madson used the time he was shut down from throwing while getting treatment in Arizona to have the scar tissue removed from his elbow, MLB.com reports.

Madson planned to play catch before Thursday night's game against the Orioles as his arm, which experienced tightness during a simulated game two weeks ago, has improved.

"It feels better now, but that could just be the non-throwing," Madson told MLB.com.
