Rays' Tyler Wells: Looks good in throwing session
Rays manager Kevin Cash said Wednesday that Wells (forearm) "looked really good" in a throwing session Tuesday, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
Wells has been sidelined for the pat two weeks with right forearm tightness, but he has a good chance to be cleared to be on the Rays' ALDS roster. The righty reliever has been excellent this season in 57 appearances between the Orioles and Rays, logging a 2.38 ERA and 72:18 K:BB over 72 frames.

Rays' Tyler Wells: Shelved by forearm tightness
The Rays placed Wells on the 15-day injured list Tuesday with right forearm tightness.
It's a big blow to the Rays' bullpen, as Wells has been lights out since landing in Tampa Bay at the trade deadline, logging a 1.50 ERA and 19:5 K:BB over 18 innings. He will not be eligible to return before the end of the regular season, but Wells expects to be active for the postseason after imaging came back negative, per Ryan Bass of Rays.tv.

Rays' Tyler Wells: Notches sixth save
Wells registered a perfect ninth inning Friday to record his sixth save of the season in a 7-6 win over Texas.
Wells recorded his sixth straight appearance without an earned run allowed, and his 15th in his last 16 outings. The right-hander was called on with no outs and two runners on in the ninth after Bryan Baker (illness) failed to record an out. In 11 games with Tampa Bay, Wells owns a 1.93 ERA, 0.79 WHIP, 13:4 K:BB and two saves over 14 innings.

Rays' Tyler Wells: Snags fifth save
Wells struck out one in a perfect ninth inning Wednesday to record his fifth save of the season in a 3-0 win over the Tigers.
Bryan Baker is getting an extended breather after working three straight days from Saturday to Monday, so Wells got a chance to pick up his first save for the Rays and didn't squander it. The former Oriole has been scored upon only once in eight appearances for his new team, posting a 2.61 ERA, 0.97 WHIP and 10:3 K:BB in 10.1 innings since switching AL East jerseys at the trade deadline.

Rays' Tyler Wells: Scoreless outing against former team
Wells allowed one hit and no walks in two scoreless relief innings to pick up a hold Saturday against Baltimore, striking out one.
Wells is occupying a similar multi-inning role out of the bullpen since being traded to the Rays as he did with the Orioles earlier this year. The right-hander has already recorded three holds with his new team, posting a 2.89 ERA, 1.07 WHIP and 9:3 K:BB across 9.1 innings for Tampa Bay.

Rays' Tyler Wells: Acquired by Rays at deadline
The Rays acquired Wells from the Orioles on Monday in exchange for right-hander Michael Forret, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
Wells boasts a 2.67 ERA, 0.96 WHIP and 53:13 K:BB over 54 innings out of the Baltimore bullpen this season. He should handle a setup role for the Rays, who will have him under club control through the 2027 campaign.

Orioles' Tyler Wells: Pockets fourth save
Wells worked a perfect ninth inning Friday without striking out a batter to record his fourth save of the season in a 6-4 win over the Phillies.
It was the veteran right-hander's first save since July 17 as the Orioles continue to go with a committee approach at closer. While Wells is the only one of the team's relievers with multiple saves since the All-Star break, four other pitchers have nabbed one each, including Andrew Kittredge and Rico Garcia. With Ryan Helsley (elbow) not expected back until late August and Felix Bautista (shoulder) still uncertain to pitch at all in 2026, Wells will remain one of the top high-leverage options for Baltimore. Over 14 appearances and 16.1 innings in July, he produced a 1.10 ERA, 0.61 WHIP and 13:4 K:BB.

Orioles' Tyler Wells: Records third save
Wells earned the save in Friday's 3-2 win over the Astros, allowing one hit and one walk while striking out one batter in a scoreless ninth inning.
Wells continues to come through for the Orioles in the ninth with Ryan Helsley (elbow) on the injured list. The right-hander stranded two Astros baserunners, locking down his third save of the year. In 36 games, the 31-year-old now has a 2.96 ERA, 1.05 WHIP and 47:11 K:BB in 45.2 innings this season.

Orioles' Tyler Wells: Collects second save
Wells earned the save in Saturday's 8-5 win over the Reds, allowing one hit and one walk in a scoreless ninth inning. He did not record a strikeout.
With Ryan Helsley (elbow) back on the injured list, Wells has gotten the call for two straight save chances and delivered on both. He owns a 3.02 ERA, 1.06 WHIP and 43:10 K:BB across 41.2 innings this season and appears to be the early favorite to replace Helsley in the ninth inning as long as he continues to pitch well.

Orioles' Tyler Wells: Logs first save of 2026
Wells earned the save in Friday's 3-0 win over the Reds after striking out one batter in a scoreless ninth inning.
The Orioles are looking for a substitute at closer after Ryan Helsley was placed on the 15-day injured due to right elbow discomfort. Rico Garcia and Yennier Cano were both deployed earlier in Friday's contest, so Wells was brought out for the ninth inning for his first save chance of the season. Wells answered the call, needing just 10 pitches (seven strikes) to wrap up the win for Baltimore. It was his first save since the 2023 season, and given his low pitch count, Wells could be called upon for another save opportunity during the weekend series in Cincinnati.
