Player Outlook
Uzomah is the No. 2 tight end for the Jets behind Tyler Conklin, and he's not worth drafting in most leagues. In 2022, Uzomah had minimal production, averaging just 3.7 PPR points per game, and he was definitely outplayed by Conklin. There's little reason to expect that to change, and the Jets like Uzomah for his blocking ability. He might see a slight boost in production with the addition of Aaron Rodgers at quarterback, but the Jets also have a crowded receiving corps with Garrett Wilson, Allen Lazard, Corey Davis, Mecole Hardman and Randall Cobb. At best, you can add Uzomah off the waiver wire if he starts off the season playing at a high level.

  • Jets' C.J. Uzomah: One catch in Saturday's win

Uzomah caught his only target for six yards in Saturday's 27-0 preseason win over the Panthers. Uzomah battled a leg injury in June and July, but the veteran tight end has been cleared to practice for a while and played without limitations while in the game Saturday. Tyler Conklin and Uzomah once again should see the lion's share of playing time at tight end for the Jets in 2023, though second-year pro Jeremy Ruckert also may enter the rotation. Ruckert injured his shoulder Saturday.

  • Jets' C.J. Uzomah: Cleared to practice

Uzomah (leg) passed his physical Wednesday and was reinstated from the active/PUP list, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports. Now that the tight end has been activated, he's eligible to take part in practices. The 30-year-old recorded a 21-232-2 receiving line in 15 games with the Jets last season. Heading into his second season in New York, Uzomah is once again slated to work behind Tyler Conklin, who hauled in 58 passes in 2022.

  • Jets' C.J. Uzomah: Lands on preseason PUP list

The Jets placed Uzomah (leg) on the PUP list Wednesday, Rich Cimini of ESPN.com reports. The tight end suffered an apparent right leg injury last month. As a result, Uzomah won't be allowed to practice once the Jets start training camp, though he can be activated at any time. Once he returns to the field, Uzomah will be in line to reclaim his role in a Jets tight-end corps led by Tyler Conklin.

  • Jets' C.J. Uzomah: Limps off practice field

Uzomah left Friday's training session early due to a right leg injury, Connor Hughes of SNY.tv reports. Uzomah limped off the practice field early Friday, so his status will need to be monitored. The 30-year-old tight end handled a depth role in his debut season for the Jets last year, tallying a 21-232-2 receiving line in 15 appearances. It remains to be seen whether Uzomah's injury will force him to miss any significant time.

  • Jets' C.J. Uzomah: Restructures contract for 2023

Uzomah and the Jets agreed Wednesday to a restructure of his contract that converts $4.5 million of his salary for 2023 into a signing bonus, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports. Uzomah's contract adjustment clears $3.6 million in cap space for the Jets, while it also makes it more difficult for New York to move on from the 30-year-old after this season considering that he's in line to account for more than $12.5 million against the cap in 2024, per Bridget Hyland of The Newark Star-Ledger. Uzomah, who tallied 21 receptions for 232 yards and two touchdowns across 15 games played in 2022, is once again slated to compete for snaps this year with fellow tight end Tyler Conklin.

  • Jets' C.J. Uzomah: Inactive for season finale

Uzomah (ankle) is inactive for Sunday's season finale against Miami, Rich Cimini of ESPN.com reports. The soon-to-be 30-year-old tight end saw a season-high seven targets Week 17 in Seattle but apparently suffered an ankle injury in the process. He finishes his first year in New York with a 21-232-2 receiving line on 27 targets in 15 games (13 starts), while fellow 2022 offseason addition Tyler Conklin has seen more than triple that target total after signing a contract quite similar to Uzomah's. It is possible Uzomah competes for a larger role in the passing game in 2023, and he'll likely be back in New York given that $7 million of his $8 million base salary is guaranteed, per OverTheCap.

  • Jets' C.J. Uzomah: Questionable for Week 18

Uzomah (ankle) is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Dolphins, Rich Cimini of ESPN.com reports. Jets head coach Robert Saleh expects Uzomah to play, even after the tight end sat out Friday's practice. The Jets will turn to Joe Flacco as their quarterback for the season finale, and while Flacco will likely throw plenty of short passes, Tyler Conklin stands to benefit more than Uzomah among New York tight ends.

  • Jets' C.J. Uzomah: Thrown to season-high seven times

Uzomah caught three of seven targets for 24 yards in Sunday's 23-6 loss to the Seahawks. Uzomah's season-high seven targets ranked second behind Garrett Wilson's 11, but fellow tight end Tyler Conklin was far more efficient with his opportunities, leading the team in catches (six) and receiving yards (80) on only six targets. Heading into the season finale against the Dolphins, Uzomah has 21 catches for 232 yards and two touchdowns on 27 targets in his first year with the Jets.

  • Jets' C.J. Uzomah: Secures 30-yard grab

Uzomah caught his only target for 30 yards in Thursday's 19-3 loss to the Jaguars. Chris Streveler briefly gave the Jets some life on offense after replacing the ineffective Zach Wilson under center in the third quarter, but Streveler underthrew a wide open Uzomah. The veteran tight end did well to work back to the ball and secure the catch, but he would have had a long touchdown for a second consecutive week had Streveler hit him in stride.

  • Jets' C.J. Uzomah: Scores first two TDs of 2022

Uzomah caught both of his targets for 41 yards and two touchdowns in Sunday's 20-17 loss to the Lions. Uzomah's first touchdown in a Jets uniform was also his longest play since joining Gang Green, as the tight end scored on a 40-yard deep ball to tie the score at seven in the second quarter. He added a go-ahead, one-yard touchdown with 4:41 remaining in the fourth, but New York failed to hold that lead. Uzomah's limited volume will make repeating this performance difficult in Week 16 against the Jaguars.

  • Jets' C.J. Uzomah: One catch in Week 14

Uzomah caught one of two targets for seven yards in Sunday's 20-12 loss to Buffalo. Uzomah was out-targeted 8-2 by fellow tight end Tyler Conklin. The former's biggest contribution was a fumble recovery after the ball was knocked out of quarterback Mike White's hand.

  • Jets' C.J. Uzomah: Season-high 31 yards in loss

Uzomah caught his only target for 31 yards in Sunday's 27-22 loss to the Vikings. Uzomah set a new season high in receiving yards by stretching out for a nice catch in the third quarter. He has yet to score a touchdown as a member of the Jets.

  • Jets' C.J. Uzomah: Limited contributions in win

Uzomah caught all three of his targets for 17 yards in Sunday's 31-10 win over the Bears. Uzomah and fellow tight end Tyler Conklin each caught all three of their targets as part of an accurate performance for new Jets quarterback Mike White, who completed 22 of 28 passes for 315 yards and three touchdowns. Neither tight end got into the end zone, but Conklin finished with a comfortable lead in receiving yards (50), continuing a season-long trend of Uzomah playing second fiddle in the passing game.

  • Jets' C.J. Uzomah: Three catches against Bills

Uzomah caught all three of his targets for 16 yards in Sunday's 20-17 win over the Bills. Uzomah set a new season high with three receptions and actually saw one more target than fellow Jets tight end Tyler Conklin, but this performance still didn't move the needle much in fantasy. Look for Uzomah to continue focusing primarily on blocking when the Jets resume play after their Week 10 bye.

  • Jets' C.J. Uzomah: Cleared for Week 9

Uzomah (shoulder) doesn't have an injury designation ahead of Sunday's game against the Bills. Uzomah was limited in practice Wednesday and Thursday due to this injury, but he avoided the final injury report after a full practice Friday. He has been used primarily as a blocker by the Jets while most of the pass catching opportunities at tight end have gone to Tyler Conklin.

  • Jets' C.J. Uzomah: Dealing with shoulder injury

Uzomah was a limited participant during Wednesday's practice due to a shoulder injury, Rich Cimini of ESPN.com reports. Uzomah played 50 total snaps (36 offensive) and caught his lone target for a season-high 27 yards during the Jets' Week 8 loss to the Patriots, but he appears to have picked up a shoulder injury as well. The veteran tight end will have two more opportunities to upgrade to a full participant before the team needs to make a decision on his status for Sunday's matchup against the Bills.

  • Jets' C.J. Uzomah: Another one-catch game

Uzomah caught his only target for 27 yards in Sunday's 22-17 loss to the Patriots. Uzomah set a new season high in receiving yards, but he remains a distant second behind Tyler Conklin on the Jets' tight end depth chart. Conklin scored both of the team's touchdowns in this game and led New York with 10 targets.

  • Jets' C.J. Uzomah: One catch in Week 7 win

Uzomah caught one of two targets for five yards in Sunday's 16-9 win over the Broncos. The Jets utilized their tight ends a bit more in the passing game as Denver's pass rush made it tough to push the ball downfield, but six of Zach Wilson's eight throws to tight ends were directed at Tyler Conklin. Uzomah won't have much of a pass-catching role as long as Conklin's healthy, as the former Bengals tight end has yet to see more than two targets in a game with the Jets.

  • Jets' C.J. Uzomah: Two catches in Week 6

Uzomah caught both of his targets for 17 yards in Sunday's 27-10 win over the Packers. Uzomah had the same number of targets and scrimmage yards as Tyler Conklin. Breece Hall has become the focal point of a Jets offense that also has a deep wide receiver corps, leaving limited touches left over for the team's pair of offseason acquisitions at tight end.

  • Jets' C.J. Uzomah: Catches both Week 5 targets

Uzomah caught both of his targets for 12 yards in Sunday's 40-17 win over the Dolphins. Neither Uzomah nor Tyler Conklin (one target, no catches) made much of an impact in this one. With plenty of talented options to throw to at both wide receiver and running back, Zach Wilson has relied on the tight end position much less frequently than Joe Flacco did while Wilson was injured over the season's first three weeks.
