  • Rams' Jordan Whittington: Team-high reception total Sunday

Whittington brought in six of eight targets for 62 yards in the Rams' 24-18 loss to the Bears on Sunday.

Whittington was the Rams' leader in receptions and targets while checking in second in receiving yards to Tutu Atwell. The rookie sixth-round pick now has upped his catches, receiving yards and targets in three successive weeks, benefitting from the absences of Cooper Kupp (ankle) and Puka Nacua (IR, knee). With Kupp uncertain to return for a Week 5 home matchup against the Packers next Sunday, Whittington could continue enjoying an expanded role.

  • Rams' Jordan Whittington: Makes three catches

Whittington caught all three of his targets for 28 yards during Sunday's 27-24 victory against San Francisco.

Whittington's snap share actually decreased compared to Week 2, with the sixth-round rookie only on the field for 22 snaps on offense. The former Texas Longhorn managed to be productive with his three targets, including a 15-yard catch to open the second half. With Demarcus Robinson, Tutu Atwell and Tyler Johnson operating as the top three wideouts with Puka Nacua (knee) and Cooper Kupp (ankle) out, Whittington may struggle to earn enough volume to stay fantasy relevant. A Week 4 showdown against a Bears defense allowing just 165 passing yards per game is next up for Whittington and the Rams.

  • Rams' Jordan Whittington: Prepping for key role

Whittington is preparing for a larger role with Puka Nacua (knee) on injured reserve and Cooper Kupp (ankle) likely out for multiple weeks, Stu Jackson of the Rams' official site reports.

Whittington barely played Week 1 and didn't get much playing time in the first half of Sunday's 41-10 loss at Arizona, but he then played every snap on offense in the second half, finishing with two catches for 22 yards on two targets. He seems to be ahead of Tutu Atwell in the pecking order and may thus join Demarcus Robinson and Tyler Johnson as full-time players this Sunday against the 49ers. While expectations for the rookie sixth-round pick should be modest for now, he drew considerable praise from teammates, coaches and beat reporters this summer. Additionally, Whittington will be a candidate to take some carries in addition to whatever targets he might garner.

  • Rams' Jordan Whittington: Sees role expand

Whittington secured both of his targets for 22 yards during Sunday's 41-10 loss to the Cardinals.

A week removed from being on the field for just two snaps on offense, the sixth-round rookie out of Texas was on the field for 26 against Arizona. Whittington managed to turn a short pass from Matthew Stafford into a big 22-yard gain in the third quarter and was on the field for significantly more plays than fellow backup Tutu Atwell, who saw just 10 snaps on offense. With Cooper Kupp (ankle) possibly missing time and Puka Nacua (knee) still on IR, Whittington may get an opportunity to shine with the Rams' receiving corps down to just four healthy players (Demarcus Robinson, Tyler Johnson, Whittington and Atwell) on the 53-man roster at the moment.

  • Rams' Jordan Whittington: May benefit from Nacua injury

Whittington could see an expanded role after the Rams placed Puka Nacua (knee) on injured reserve Wednesday.

A rookie sixth-round pick, Whittington was the subject of considerable hype this summer but played only two snaps on offense in a 26-20 overtime loss to the Lions in Week 1. Whittington at least made himself noticeable with a one-yard touchdown run wiped out by a penalty, a 20-yard kickoff return and a tackle on special teams. The door has now been cracked open for Whittington to take on a more substantial role on offense with Nacua out for at least four games. He may still be fourth in line for snaps at receiver, however, as the Rams used Cooper Kupp, Demarcus Robinson and Tyler Johnson as their wideout trio for nearly every snap after Nacua's injury in the Week 1 loss, and that could be the plan again Week 2 at Arizona.
