  • Red Wings' Cam Talbot: Pulled in loss to Tampa Bay

Talbot allowed five goals on 16 shots before being replaced by Alex Lyon for the start of the third period in Saturday's 5-1 loss to the Lightning. Talbot surrendered three goals at even strength and two power-play tallies through 40 minutes of game action before ceding the net to Alex Lyon. Talbot was blitzed for three markers in the opening four minutes of the second period, effectively putting the contest out of reach on a night when Andrei Vasilevskiy turned aside 39 shots at the other end of the ice. The 37-year-old Talbot earned his first loss through six outings in January. Overall, the Ontario native has an 11-10-2 record, a .901 save percentage and a 3.07 GAA through 25 appearances in 2024-25.

Talbot made 41 saves, including 23 in the third period, in a 5-2 win over the Panthers on Thursday. The Red Wings stepped up with a lot of offensive support, and Talbot locked down the net. He's on a roll right now with five consecutive wins, mostly against teams that aren't destined for the postseason. However, this game was a statement for Talbot given how good the Panthers are. Overall, he's 11-9-2 with a 2.93 GAA and .906 save percentage. Take full advantage of this run.

  • Red Wings' Cam Talbot: Tending twine Thursday

Talbot will defend the cage on the road against the Panthers on Thursday, Helene St. James of the Detroit Free Press reports. Talbot will look to extend his four-game winning streak during which he recorded a 2.98 GAA and .885 save percentage. After a winless December, the veteran backstop is now undefeated in January. Even with three netminders on the roster, Talbot will likely continue to see the bulk of the workload as long as he maintains his winning ways.

  • Red Wings' Cam Talbot: Stacking up wins in January

Talbot made 31 saves on 33 shots in Sunday's 6-2 win over the Kraken. Talbot was never in much danger of losing Sunday, as the Red Wings scored 3:22 into the game and led 6-1 after the second period. The veteran netminder lost his last four games in December, but he's opened the new calendar year with a 4-0-0 record while turning aside 85 of 96 shots in that span. Coach Todd McLellan has done wonders for Motor City since being hired Dec. 27 -- the Red Wings are currently riding a seven-game winning streak. Talbot improved to 10-9-2 with a .903 save percentage and a 2.98 GAA through 23 appearances this season. Alex Lyon is dealing with an upper-body injury, so Talbot could draw the start again in Tuesday's home matchup versus the Sharks.

  • Red Wings' Cam Talbot: Collects OT win in relief

Talbot stopped 21 of 23 shots after replacing Alex Lyon (upper body) to begin the second period of Tuesday's 3-2 overtime win over the Senators. Talbot looked a little shaky after entering the game, conceding both his goals in the second frame, but he shut the door down the stretch. It's not clear how long Lyon might be sidelined, but Talbot will likely handle No. 1 duties while he's unavailable, with Ville Husso the top candidate to be brought up from AHL Grand Rapids for depth. The 37-year-old Talbot is 8-9-2 in 21 appearances this season with a 3.03 GAA and .903 save percentage.

  • Red Wings' Cam Talbot: Hangs on for win Thursday

Talbot made 21 saves in Thursday's 5-4 win over the Blue Jackets. The Red Wings blew 3-1 and 4-3 leads on the night, but Talbot made just enough stops to get rewarded when Jonatan Berggren found the back of the net with 36 seconds left in regulation. It was the netminder's first victory since Nov. 27, snapping a winless streak that had seen Talbot go 0-5-0 over six outings with a 4.20 GAA and .861 save percentage. He will likely remain the clear No. 2 behind Alex Lyon without a more sustained run of success.

Talbot stopped 17 of 20 shots in Monday's 4-0 loss to the Blues, with St. Louis' final goal getting scored into an empty net. The Red Wings looked like they decided to start their holiday break early, and while Talbot wasn't busy, he faced a number of high-danger chances. The veteran netminder has dealt with a lower-body injury in December that's limited him to four outings, and he hasn't been especially sharp when he's been in the crease, going 0-3-0 with a 3.26 GAA and an .891 save percentage. Detroit is off until Friday, and Talbot will try to use the time off to regain his focus.

Alex Lyon figures to get the nod in Saturday's rematch in Montreal, and if Talbot continues to struggle, he could lose playing time moving forward.

Talbot (lower body) will not be an option to face the Flyers on Wednesday, Helene St. James of the Detroit Free Press reports. With a back-to-back on the schedule versus Montreal on Friday and Saturday, Detroit will hope to get the 37-year-old backstop in the lineup for one of those two contests. • Red Wings' Cam Talbot: Stellar in return from injury

Talbot made 32 saves in a 4-1 loss to the Flyers. He allowed two goals. It was Talbot's first appearance since missing four games due to a lower-body injury. He was pelted with pucks -- he had already faced 29 shots by the end of two periods -- and he bailed his team out time after time, as he allowed just one goal over the first two frames. The first shot of the third got past Talbot while his team was on a power play, and it pushed the game to 2-0. From that point on, he didn't see many pucks as his teammates upped their attempts, but unfortunately, they couldn't make a comeback in the third. Talbot gives the Red Wings a chance every time he's in the blue paint, but the team structure keeps him from getting wins. Fantasy managers should use him as they did before he got hurt.
