  • Red Wings' Cam Talbot: Solid in net Thursday

Talbot made 37 saves on 40 shots en route to a 5-3 win over New Jersey on Thursday. For the second time in his last three appearances, Talbot has picked up a win while facing at least 40 shots. The 37-year-old bounced back from his last appearance in which he allowed five goals on 19 shots to the Rangers on Oct. 17. The Red Wings seem to be limiting Talbot's workload early on -- the Ontario native went seven days between his last two starts. The veteran netminder is up to a 2-1-0 record, .913 save percentage and 3.21 GAA across four outings.

  • Red Wings' Cam Talbot: Gets starting nod versus Devils

Talbot will be between the home pipes against New Jersey on Thursday, Max Bultman of The Athletic reports. Talbot will look to bounce back from a disappointing previous outing in which he conceded five goals on 19 shots (.737 save percentage) in a losing effort against the Rangers. Thus far, Alex Lyon has seemingly outperformed Talbot by registering a 2-1-0 record and a .955 save percentage in his four outings. At this point, Talbot is probably still the No. 1 option in Detroit but will have to drastically improve his performances to stave off Lyon.

  • Red Wings' Cam Talbot: Struggles in loss to Rangers

Talbot gave up five goals, including three on the power play, on 19 shots and was removed in the second period of Thursday's 5-2 loss to the Rangers. Talbot had a rough showing Thursday, giving up two goals in the first period and three more in the second before being lifted and replaced by Alex Lyon. The second period was particularly frustrating for Talbot, as the Red Wings were down 2-1 before the netminder gave up three goals over a four-minute span. Talbot will aim to bounce back when the Red Wings take on the Predators on Saturday, though it's unclear if he or Lyon will get the start.

Talbot is expected to start in Thursday's home game against the Rangers, per Helene St. James of the Detroit Free Press. • Red Wings' Cam Talbot: Blanks Preds on Saturday

Talbot made 42 saves in Saturday's 3-0 win over the Predators. Nashville fired at least 12 shots at Talbot in every period, but the veteran goalie was up to the challenge in his Detroit debut as he recorded his 32nd career shutout. The Red Wings' three-headed committee in the crease could limit the fantasy value of everyone involved if a clear No. 1 doesn't emerge , but Talbot might have the best chance of claiming that role over Ville Husso and Alex Lyon.

  • Red Wings' Cam Talbot: Slated to start Saturday

Talbot is expected to start in the home crease for Saturday's game against the Predators, Ansar Khan of MLive.com reports. Talbot entered Thursday's regular-season opener against Pittsburgh in relief, and he turned aside 12 of 14 shots. He should earn his first start of the season Saturday as the Red Wings attempt to bounce back from their 6-3 loss on Opening Night.

  • Red Wings' Cam Talbot: Appears in relief

Talbot appeared in relief Thursday and gave up two goals on 14 shots in a 6-3 loss to the Penguins. The loss gets saddled on Ville Husso, who was flat-footed to start the game and never recovered. Talbot is 37 years old and on the downslope of his career, but he delivered a 27-20-6 record, 2.50 GAA and .913 save percentage for the Kings last year. With Husso struggling, Talbot and Alex Lyon could carry more of the load in relatively short order.

  • Red Wings' Cam Talbot: Gets little help in Thursday's loss

Talbot made 23 saves in Thursday's 2-0 preseason loss to the Maple Leafs. Toronto's top stars were sitting this one out, but Talbot was unable to contain Nicholas Robertson, who beat him twice on five shots. The 37-year-old journeyman netminder will be playing for his seventh different team in the last seven seasons, but after posting a dependable 2.50 GAA and .913 save percentage for the Kings in 2023-24 over 54 appearances -- his biggest workload since 2017-18 -- Talbot could be the Red Wings' best option between the pipes for the upcoming campaign, ahead of Alex Lyon and Ville Husso.

  • Red Wings' Cam Talbot: Guarding cage Thursday

Talbot will defend the cage at home versus Toronto on Thursday, Ansar Khan of MLive.com reports. Talbot will get the nod Thursday while Alex Lyon starts Friday's home clash with Ottawa. Given the battle for the No. 1 job in the Motor City, it wouldn't be a shock to see Ville Husso take the preseason finale on the road versus the Leafs on Saturday. While the veteran Talbot likely has the inside track, there is no clear starter at this point, with the Wings possibly even deploying a three-headed monster in the crease.

  • Kings' Cam Talbot: Torched for six more goals

Talbot allowed six goals on 40 shots in Friday's 6-1 loss to the Oilers in Game 3. Talbot has given up a total of 16 tallies over three games in the first round, so he's lucky the Kings are only down 2-1 in the series. The 36-year-old's play has been lackluster, but he's not getting a ton of help from his defense. Game 4 is Sunday, but it's unclear if the Kings will stick with Talbot much longer if he continues to struggle, which could open the door for David Rittich to get a look.

  • Kings' Cam Talbot: Set to start Friday

Talbot is expected to start at home against Edmonton in Game 3 on Friday, per Dennis Bernstein of The Fourth Period. Talbot has struggled against the Oilers, allowing 10 goals on 75 shots (.867 save percentage) over two playoff contests. Edmonton ranked fourth offensively with 3.56 goals per game in the regular season, so the Oilers are likely to continue to give the veteran goaltender trouble, especially because Talbot's been floundering for a while now. He has a 2.92 GAA and an .897 save percentage over his past 17 outings dating back to March 7.

The series is tied at 1-1 heading to Los Angeles, where Talbot went 13-10-3 with a 2.56 GAA and a .910 save percentage during the regular season, slightly worse than his numbers on the road. He had a 27-20-6 record, 2.50 GAA and .913 save percentage in 54 regular-season appearances. Talbot allowed six goals on 44 shots in Monday's 7-4 loss to the Oilers in Game 1. The seventh goal was an empty-netter. Talbot has allowed three or more goals in five of his last six games, making him lucky to escape with three wins in that span. The 36-year-old could be in for a tough series if the Kings' defense can't figure out how to contain the Oilers' many talented forwards. Talbot has earned the chance to be the postseason starter, but David Rittich could get a look if Talbot struggles in Wednesday's Game 2.

The win set up the third consecutive year of a Kings-Oilers first-round matchup in the playoffs. Talbot ends the regular season 27-20-6 with a 2.50 GAA and a .913 save percentage.
