Maple Leafs' Easton Cowan: Four points in last five games
Cowan scored a goal Saturday in a 7-2 victory over the Penguins.
William Nylander set up Cowan, who was off-balance in the right circle and made no mistake on a one-timer. Cowan is looking more and more comfortable in a top-six deployment since his return from the AHL, and he has four points (two goals, two assists) and 11 shots in his last five games.

Maple Leafs' Easton Cowan: Nets late equalizer
Cowan scored a goal on three shots and added two hits in Wednesday's 2-1 overtime win over the Blue Jackets.
Cowan tallied with 3:17 left in the third period to answer a Zach Werenski goal. Over five games since he was recalled from AHL Toronto, Cowan has earned a goal and two helpers, one point shy of matching his total from his first stint in the NHL this season. Overall, the 20-year-old has two goals, five assists, 28 shots on net, 17 hits and a plus-4 rating over 15 appearances. There will be some bumps in the road as the rookie adjusts to the NHL, but he should get sufficient ice time to make his presence felt.

Maple Leafs' Easton Cowan: Sent to minors
Cowan was assigned to AHL Toronto on Wednesday.
Cowan saw fairly regular playing time with the Maple Leafs over the first few weeks of the year, recording a goal, three assists, 13 hits and four blocked shots while averaging 12:33 of ice time in 10 appearances. The Maple Leafs needed a roster spot to activate Scott Laughton (lower body) from injured reserve in a corresponding move. However, Cowan will be a candidate to rejoin the big club at some point in the season.

Maple Leafs' Easton Cowan: Gets first NHL goal in win
Cowan scored a goal Saturday in a 5-2 win over the Flyers.
It was Cowan's first NHL goal just 33 seconds into the third period to make it 4-1, taking a pass off the rush from John Tavares and forcing Dan Vladar from the game. Cowan has three points in his last five games, and he appears to be gaining confidence in his first season in the NHL. That isn't enough to make him a regular in redraft formats, but his dynasty value is as good as ever.

Maple Leafs' Easton Cowan: Replaced on top line
Cowan was charged with five giveaways in Thursday's 2-1 overtime win over the Rangers.
The rookie struggled and was ultimately replaced on the top line by Bobby McMann late in the game. Cowan has plenty of potential, but it's a huge leap from the OHL to the NHL.

Maple Leafs' Easton Cowan: First NHL point
Cowan picked up an assist Tuesday in a 7-4 win over Nashville.
He got the secondary assist on Auston Matthews' game winner. It was Cowan's first NHL point. The 20-year-old from Mt. Brydges, Ontario, has not looked out of place on the top line with Auston Matthews and Matthew Knies. At this rate, Cowan could be a solid waiver grab.

Maple Leafs' Easton Cowan: Impresses in debut
Cowan fired one shot on goal in 14:05 of ice time in his NHL debut Monday in a 3-2 loss to Detroit.
He added some much needed energy Monday -- he made a block on his first shift and then levelled a hit to create a turnover. Cowan showed real chemistry with Auston Matthews and Matthew Knies on the top line late in the game. "A great game," head coach Craig Berube said after the contest. "Five-foot (passes) all over the ice. He's totally different (than last year), way more confident. Direct. Skating way better." Bobby McMann also saw time on the top line and set up a Matthew Knies goal. But this gig could quickly become Cowan's if he can keep this strong play up.

Maple Leafs' Easton Cowan: Lengthy point streak ends
Cowan's 65-game point streak with OHL London ended in Friday's 3-1 win over Peterborough, Jared Brown of The Hockey News reports.
Cowan's incredible run won't be an official OHL record because it spanned two regular seasons. Still, his remarkable offensive consistency is noteworthy. The 19-year-old forward amassed 41 goals, 106 points and 44 multi-point efforts during that stretch. Cowan has 18 goals and 40 points through 30 games in the 2024-25 campaign. The Maple Leafs chose him with the No. 28 pick in the 2023 NHL Entry Draft.

Maple Leafs' Easton Cowan: Strong game but still no points
Cowan got to skate with his boyhood idol, Mitch Marner, and Max Domi against Montreal on Thursday.
Cowan didn't hit the scoresheet but did impress. The trio created eight scoring chances and controlled 84.4 percent of the expected goals at 5v5. But in reality, games aren't decided based on expected goals. Cowan hasn't picked up a point during the preseason. The diminutive 19-year-old must work on his strength -- he got pushed off the puck a few times, and he had the puck stripped a few times by average NHL defenders. But that will come. Cowan needs more development time, but he sure is fun to watch.

Maple Leafs' Easton Cowan: Coach impressed with effort
Cowan has impressed Leafs general manager, Brad Treliving, during rookie camp, reports the Toronto Sun on Wednesday.
Cowan produced 34 goals and 62 assists in 54 regular-season games last season with OHL London, and he followed it up with 10 goals and 24 assists in 18 playoff contests. He's already shown he can stand out with two strong rookie games versus the Habs freshmen. Cowan is fast with intense compete, and he doesn't cut corners in his own zone. Still, Treliving is a tough customer and doesn't mince words: "He has produced in junior and the one thing watching the rookie games, this guy works. Having said that, he needs to be detailed... He needs to show us that he doesn't [still have junior habits]." Cowan will compete for a bottom-six role in training camp and could get a nine-game audition with the big club. Or stay, depending on his game. He remains eligible to return to the OHL for 2024-25.

Cowan agreed to a three-year, entry-level contract with Toronto on Thursday.
Cowan had 20 goals and 53 points in 68 OHL contests with London last season. The Maple Leafs selected him with the No. 28 overall pick in the 2023 NHL Draft. The 18-year-old plays a gritty game, but he's not likely to play in the NHL anytime soon.
