Simmonds was assigned to AHL Toronto on Sunday, per CapFriendly.

Simmonds has two assists, 44 hits and 49 PIM in 18 games with the Maple Leafs this season. His demotion helped create some cap space to allow Toronto to sign top prospect Matthew Knies to an entry-level contract.
