Predators' Ryan Ellis: Underwent surgery

Ellis (upper body) underwent surgery earlier this month, Robby Stanley of NHL.com reports.

It's unclear exactly what Ellis' procedure was but it helps explain his lengthy absence. Head coach John Hynes pointed out that the 30-year-old blueliner is skating but isn't close to returning yet. He's missed 11 games and doesn't have a set timetable to return.
