Duchene notched two assists and registered a plus-3 rating in Monday's 4-1 win over Dallas. Duchene has six helpers on the year and four in the last two games, but he's still searching for his first goal of the season. It doesn't help that he's put just 11 shots on net through the first six games.
Duchene had a power-play assist and the primary assist on his team's final goal in a 5-1 win over Los Angeles on Saturday. Owners will appreciate seeing Duchene pick up a point on the power play, as those tend to be fairly uncommon for the center. What's not uncommon are assists. He's now picked up four in five games and seems to have picked up where he left off last season. The Senators are having no problem finding the net right now, making Duchene a solid option in all formats.
Duchene has a pair of even-strength assists representing his point total through the first four games of the 2018-19 season. Duchene needs just 21 more points for 500 in his career, which is a milestone that he should have no trouble hitting this season. It was disappointing to see Duchene only attempt one shot on the power play in Wednesday's game -- especially knowing that the Senators converted 3 of 7 man-advantage opportunities -- but a surprising tidbit is that barely 15 percent of Duchene's point total over 10 seasons between the Avs and Sens has taken place with the extra man. He does have 178 goals and 250 assists total in his career, though.
Duchene had a goal and an assist in Saturday's 3-0 win over Montreal. Duchene has talent, but he has struggled to come close to his 70-point best from 2013-14. And his combined minus-56 over the last two seasons is abysmal. Duchene is headed to free agency this summer and that means a get-out-of-jail (or Ottawa)-free card. But his fantasy value will be depressed because of poor two-way play. And we don't know if he'll struggle after a deal like he did when he went to Ottawa last season. Duchene is a serious fantasy risk, unless you like high-stakes gambles.
Duchene tallied a power-play goal and recorded five shots in a 5-2 preseason loss to the Blackhawks on Friday. The 27-year-old has never been a huge producer on the power play, but any contributions Duchene can make the talent-depleted Senators will surely appreciate. Last season, he scored 27 goals and 59 points with a minus-22 rating in 82 games between the Avalanche and Senators. In 68 games in Ottawa, Duchene tallied a minus-23 rating. More of the same, --- with perhaps a little less scoring -- because he won't have any help, should be expected from Duchene in 2018-19.
