The Mets are hopeful third baseman David Wright, who has been sidelined since mid-April due to a back injury, will begin limited baseball activities next week, according to the New York Post.
Manager Terry Collins said he has spoken with Wright in the last few days, and Wright is the most upbeat he’s been “in a long time” as he recovers from spinal stenosis.
Wright is slated to meet with the team later this week in Los Angeles. There is a possibility he will be cleared to begin running and fielding grounders next week. Wright has spent the last month in Los Angeles undergoing physical therapy and consulting with back specialist Dr. Robert Watkins.
If Wright is cleared for baseball activities, then he could be back shortly after the All-Star break.
