  • David Wright: Career officially ends

The Mets released Wright on Monday.

Wright had previously announced in September that 2018 would be his last season in the big leagues, so the Mets' decision to remove him from the roster was merely a procedural move. The 36-year-old will remain with the organization in advisory role to the front office and will still be paid the $27 million he's owed through the next two years.

  • Mets' David Wright: Makes first start since 2016

Wright will start at third base and bat third against Miami on Saturday.

Wright grounded out as a pinch hitter Friday, his first big-league action since May of 2016. He's expected to receive a pair of plate appearances Saturday before leaving to a standing ovation in the final game of his career.

  • Mets' David Wright: Makes first appearance in two seasons

Wright (shoulder) played in a major league game for the first time in two and a half seasons in Friday's loss to the Braves. He pinch-hit to lead off the fifth and grounded out to third, going 0-for-1 in his only at-bat.

It's been a long road back for the Mets captain as there was plenty of doubt over whether he'd ever step foot on the field again. After extensive time off and plenty of rehab, Wright has worked his way back so that he can play one final game before he retires. He will bat third and start at third base for the Mets on Saturday against the Braves in the last major league game of his illustrious career.

  • Mets' David Wright: Reinstated from disabled list

Wright (shoulder) was reinstated from the 60-day disabled list Tuesday.

As expected, Wright is back with the Mets ahead of their series opener against the Braves. It marks the first time since June of 2016 that the veteran third baseman has been on the team's active roster following a long road back from multiple injuries. He's set to pinch hit during New York's three-game set against the Braves before making the final start of his career Saturday against the Marlins, according to Matt Ehalt of The Bergen Record.
