The Yankees envision pitcher Michael Pineda as a starter, according to Newsday.

Pineda hasn't pitched in the majors since 2011 due to shoulder issues. While there have been encouraging reports about Pineda's abilities this spring, he'll still have to work his way onto the club. Manager Joe Girardi said "anything is possible" when asked whether they would use Pineda out of the pen, but added that the team views him as a starter.

Pineda posted a 3.74 ERA in 171 innings during his rookie season.
