  • Severino Gonzalez: Let go by Miami

The Marlins released Gonzalez on Monday, Triple-A New Orleans radio broadcaster Tim Grubbs reports.

The Marlins outrighted Gonzalez to Triple-A in early April, with the right-hander having spent all season with the affiliate until receiving his walking papers earlier this week. Gonzalez posted a 5.61 ERA and 1.45 WHIP across 33.2 innings with New Orleans.

  • Marlins' Severino Gonzalez: Outrighted to Triple-A

Gonzalez cleared waivers and was outrighted to Triple-A New Orleans, Joe Frisaro of MLB.com reports.

After seeing time in the majors in 2015 and 2016, Gonzalez spent all of 2017 in the upper levels of the minors, so it seems like he may have missed his opportunity to prove he can be an effective big-league reliever. He will offer organizational depth this season.

  • Marlins' Severino Gonzalez: Designated for assignment

Gonzalez was designated for assignment by the Marlins on Monday, Clark Spencer of the Miami Herald reports.

A roster spot was needed for Monday's starter, Trevor Richards, and Gonzalez was the corresponding roster casualty. The 25-year-old was promoted to the majors over the weekend but went unused in Sunday's series finale against the Cubs. He'll report back to Triple-A New Orleans if he goes through waivers untouched.

  • Marlins' Severino Gonzalez: Contract selected from Triple-A

Gonzalez had his contract selected from Triple-A New Orleans on Sunday.

With no shortage of extra innings to begin the season, the Marlins will continue their rotation of arms. Gonzalez has yet to appear at the Triple-A level this season, but across 19.1 innings pitched in 2017 at that level, posted a 6.52 ERA and 1.60 WHIP. The 25-year-old righty will now serve as bullpen depth.

  • Marlins' Severino Gonzalez: Outrighted to Triple-A

The Marlins outrighted Gonzalez to Triple-A New Orleans on Saturday.

The move clears up a spot on the 40-man roster for the Marlins, though it's not immediately clear who will fill the void. Gonzalez split the 2017 campaign between Double-A Jacksonville and New Orleans, accruing a 4.82 ERA and 56:17 K:BB over 80.1 innings.

  • Marlins' Severino Gonzalez: Returning to Triple-A

After serving as the Marlins' 26th man for Tuesday's doubleheader against the Phillies, Gonzalez returned to Triple-A New Orleans on Wednesday, Andre Fernandez of the Miami Herald reports.

Despite playing two games, the Marlins didn't use Gonzalez in any capacity Tuesday. He'll look to improve with New Orleans, where he's posted a 5.93 ERA and 1.61 WHIP over 13.2 innings this season.

  • Marlins' Severino Gonzalez: Called up for Tuesday doubleheader

Gonzalez was recalled from Triple-A New Orleans and will serve as the Marlins' 26th man for Tuesday's doubleheader with the Phillies, Joe Frisaro of MLB.com reports.

Gonzalez has spent most of the season with Double-A Jacksonville, but was impressive upon moving up to New Orleans earlier this month, tossing four scoreless innings and striking out five. He'll be on hand to eat some innings out of the bullpen for the big club during the twin bill, but should be headed back to New Orleans on Wednesday.

  • Marlins' Severino Gonzalez: Shipped to New Orleans

Gonzalez was optioned to Triple-A New Orleans on Thursday, Joe Frisaro of MLB.com reports.

The right-hander finishes big-league camp with a 3.55 ERA but allowed four home runs, three of which came in one recent outing. Gonzalez's velocity jumped when he was kept in the bullpen in 2016 for the Phillies, and his 5.60 ERA hid nice peripherals (8.7 K/9, 1.8 BB/9). If he can creep into a starting role for the Marlins, the 24-year-old may find deep-league fantasy value at least during home starts in pitcher-friendly Marlins Park. Of course, his success as a reliever may limit him to that role in the future.

  • Marlins' Severino Gonzalez: Serves up three homers Monday

Gonzalez allowed three runs -- all from solo home runs -- on four hits over four innings while striking out two in Monday's Grapefruit League game against the Mets.

He was facing most of New York's Opening Day lineup and the Mets do lead all of MLB in spring homers so far, but this was still not an encouraging outing for Gonzalez. The former Phillie will almost certainly begin the season with Triple-A New Orleans.

  • Marlins' Severino Gonzalez: Dealt to Marlins

Gonzalez was traded to the Marlins on Tuesday for a player to be named later or cash considerations, Meghan Montemurro of The News Journal reports.

The 24-year-old was designated for assignment last week after the Phillies signed Michael Saunders, so the trade isn't a huge surprise. He struggled in the majors for the most part last year, posting a 5.60 ERA across 35.1 innings, although he did register a 34:7 K:BB.

  • Phillies' Severino Gonzalez: Booted from 40-man roster

Gonzalez was designated for assignment Thursday.

Gonzalez spent a considerable amount of time with the major league club last season, although his 5.60 ERA and 1.0 HR/9 go to show he wasn't up for the task. This led the Phillies to DFA him when they needed a spot on the 40-man roster for Michael Saunders, which will likely relegate the young reliever to an organizational depth role for the time being.

Gonzalez allowed a run on three hits in a third of an inning in Wednesday's 6-0 loss to the Marlins.

  • Phillies' Severino Gonzalez: Optioned to Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Sunday

Gonzalez was moved in order to make room for Daniel Stumpf, who returned from an 80-game suspension Sunday. The 23-year-old Gonzalez pitched in 11 games with the Phillies, accumulating a 3.38 ERA with a 1.05 WHIP during 13.1 innings of work. He was solid in his relief role, striking out 17 and only allowing one walk, but did allow 13 hits and five earned runs. Gonzalez will likely get another chance with the big league club later this summer.

  • Phillies' Severino Gonzalez: Will likely lose roster spot

Gonzalez will likely be optioned to the minors to make room for Daniel Stumpf's return from his suspension on Sunday, Matt Breen of the Philadelphia Inquirer reports.

Gonzalez has pitched OK since his promotion from Triple-A, but he has options and the Phillies need to keep Stumpf, who was a Rule 5 pick, on their active roster all season.

Gonzalez has added about 4 mph to his average fastball velocity since last season, Matt Gelb of the Philadelphia Inquirer reports.

Gonzalez averaged 88.9 mph with his fastball as a starter, but has seen his velocity spike to 93.5 mph with the move to a relief role. He's been solid since his promotion from the minors with a 1.69 ERA and a 6:1 K:BB in 5.1 innings of work.

  • Phillies' Severino Gonzalez: Has been recalled from Triple-A Lehigh Valley

Gonzalez was called up from Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Friday.

The 23-year-old touted a 3.51 ERA with a 1.23 WHIP during 33.1 innings of work at Lehigh Valley this season. Gonzalez also spent time with Double-A Reading in 2016, posting a 1.69 ERA in 10.2 innings on the mound. He made seven starts for the Phillies last season, going 3-3 with a 7.92 ERA, but has pitched well enough in the minors to earn himself another opportunity this season. Gonzalez isn't the most intimidating pitcher as he only tops out around 89 mph with his fastball, so he will have to work to get batters out at the next level.

  • Phillies' Severino Gonzalez: Optioned to Triple-A Lehigh Valley

Gonzalez was optioned to Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Tuesday, Ryan Lawrence of the Philly Voice reports.

Gonzalez allowed five runs on seven hits over six innings of work this spring. He could be second in line for a rotation spot if injuries require the Phillies to dip down into the minors early in the year. Eventually, he will be passed on the depth chart by Jake Thompson, Zach Eflin and Mark Appel.
