Santander went 0-for-3 with a hit by pitch and a stolen base in Thursday's 6-4 loss to Detroit.
After reaching on a fielder's choice in the first inning, the 26-year-old darted toward second base. The Tigers caught him in a rundown, but Santander's baserunning foray provided enough of a distraction for Cedric Mullins to head home from third base on what effectively became a delayed double steal, while Santander claimed second. Through parts of five major-league seasons, he has just three stolen bases on seven attempts, so he should not be considered a speed threat by any means. He's now slashing .250/.298/.433 through 293 plate appearances this year.
