Royals' Kelvin Gutierrez: Designated for assignment

Gutierrez was designated for assignment by the Royals on Monday.

Gutierrez had been serving as the team's primary third baseman but wasn't close to convincing at the plate, hitting just .215/.254/.296 in 38 games. Emmanuel Rivera had his contract selected in a corresponding move and will be given the chance to make the position his own.
