  • Fleury was taken by Seattle from Montreal in the 2021 Expansion Draft on Wednesday, Eric Engels of Sportsnet.ca reports. With all the speculation around the Kraken taking Carey Price (knee), the decision to grab the young blueliner certainly comes as a bit of a surprise. Considering the 22-year-old defenseman hasn't logged an NHL game since the 2019-20 campaign, fantasy players should probably expect him to be stashed in the minors to start the upcoming season.

  • Fleury was added to Montreal's active roster Tuesday. Fleury will be around as an emergency depth option for the Canadiens' playoff run, but he likely won't see any game action. He's picked up six helpers through 22 AHL appearances this year.

  • AHL Laval head coach Pierre Bouchard wants to see Fleury be more consistently physical, Herb Zurkowsky of the Montreal Gazette reports. Bouchard feels the 6-foot-1, 211-pound Fleury's biggest asset is being physical, something he's not doing consistently enough. "I walked by him this morning and told him: 'I'm going to be over you, under you and through you'," Bouchard said. "We're going to work at it. That's his colour (being physical). If he doesn't do that, he's useless. He knows that. He has to be a presence." Fleury, who spent 41 games in the NHL last season, was bypassed for a callup to Montreal prior to its six-game road trip. Instead, the Canadiens promoted Xavier Ouellet, who could get a chance to fill in for the injured Ben Chiarot (hand).

  • Fleury was demoted to AHL Laval on Saturday, per CapFriendly. Fleury will likely continue moving between the taxi squad and the minors this season. The 22-year-old defenseman won't be on the fantasy radar, as he's not expected to make the big club's lineup.

  • The Canadiens added Fleury to the taxi squad Thursday, per CapFriendly. The 22-year-old spent time with AHL Laval to this point, earning two assists and a plus-3 rating across three games. He'll return to the taxi squad where he's expected to provide depth heading into Saturday's game against Toronto. Fleury is expected to spend most of his time between the minors and taxi squad this season.
