Josh D. Smith: Loses spot in Marlins' roster pool
The Marlins released Smith on Sept. 1.
Smith initially accepted an outright assignment to the Marlins' alternate site after going unclaimed off waivers, but Miami ultimately reversed course and chose to part ways with him entirely. The 30-year-old lefty, who gave up two earned runs over 1.2 innings with Miami earlier this season, is now free to sign with another organization.

Marlins' Josh D. Smith: Outrighted to alternate camp
Smith was outrighted to the Marlins' alternate training site Tuesday.
Smith went unclaimed on waivers after being designated for assignment by the Marlins on Saturday, and he'll remain in the organization. The southpaw made two appearances in the majors this year, allowing two runs on two hits while striking out four over 1.2 innings.
