Vikings quarterback Matt Cassel completed 17 of his 25 pass attempts for 170 yards and two touchdowns without throwing an interception in his team's 34-6 blowout win over the Rams Sunday.
Cassel leaned on the rushing attack early but started to pick up chunks of yardage in the second quarter, finishing with an eight-yard touchdown to Greg Jennings late in the first half to make it 13-0. His second touchdown later in the game went to tight end Greg Rudolph in the fourth quarter.
While some will have an eye on when first-round pick Teddy Bridgewater will take over under center, the blowout victory should loosen the leash on Cassel as the starter. He faces a tough stretch moving forward, starting with a Week 2 home matchup with the Patriots.
