Devils to retire Martin Brodeur's number, commission statue
The New Jersey Devils will build a statue of goaltender Martin Brodeur to sit outside the Prudential Center. They also will retire his jersey number on Feb. 9.

In the least shocking announcement of the preseason, the New Jersey Devils will honor former goaltender Martin Brodeur by retiring his number this season. Brodeur's No. 30 will head to the rafters in the Prudential Center on Feb. 9. Additionally, the team will erect a statue of their legendary netminder on the arena grounds as part of a four-day celebration culminating with his jersey number retirement.
He'll join former teammates Scott Stevens, Ken Daneyko and Scott Niedermayer as one of four players honored with retired numbers in New Jersey. All four were part of helping the Devils turn into an annual Stanley Cup contender.
Brodeur retired last season after a brief stint with the St. Louis Blues. He is now the Blues' assistant general manager.
Over his career, Brodeur became one of the all-time great goaltenders in the game. He won three Stanley Cups with the Devils, four Vezina Trophies, five Jennings Trophies, the Calder Trophy and was named a first-team league All-Star four times.
Over 22 seasons, 21 of which came with the Devils, Brodeur amassed 24 NHL records including the most wins for a goaltender (691), most saves (28,928), most shutouts (125), among others.
Brodeur appeared in 1,266 NHL games before his retirement last year and posted a .912 save percentage and 2.24 goals-against average.
