NHL lockout: Talks will resume on Monday
The NHL and NHLPA will continue to meet on Monday night.
So much for that idea of a two-week moratorium on CBA negotiations.
The NHL announced on Saturday that the league and NHLPA will meet again Monday night to continue work on a new collective bargaining agreement to end the lockout that has now gone on for more than 60 days, cancelling 326 regular-season games (and the Winter Classic).
"We can confirm that we have tentatively agreed to get back together on Monday, either late in the afternoon or early evening," deputy commissioner Bill Daly said on Saturday. "The meeting was requested by the Union and it's their agenda. We will see what they have to tell us."
TSN's Darren Dreger reports that it will be a smaller group for the meetings but that it will likely involve players and owners.
The two sides last met more than a week ago when talks broke down last Friday following a week's worth of negotiations.
On Saturday, reports surfaced out of Philadelphia that Flyers owner Ed Snider is unhappy with the lockout process and is trying to team up with other mid-market owners to work on getting an agreement.
The league has already canceled all games through the end of November and it's believed that more games could be canceled in the coming week, perhaps elminating games through the middle of December.
The NHL had hoped to start a shortened schedule on Dec. 1.
The chances of that happening at this point are slim and there would need to be a significant breakthrough in the next couple of days to see hockey in early December.
