  • Sabres' Alex Lyon: Moves to IR

Lyon (lower body) was moved to injured reserve Tuesday, per the NHL media site. Lyon will miss his third straight game against Vancouver on Tuesday after being injured in a 4-2 win over St. Louis on Dec. 29. He is day-to-day, but it's unclear when he will be available to return to the lineup. Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen will probably see the majority of the starts during Lyon's absence, while Colten Ellis serves as the backup.

  • Sabres' Alex Lyon: Set to miss time

Lyon (lower body) won't be available for Wednesday's road game against Dallas, Rachel Lenzi of The Buffalo News reports. Lyon is back in Buffalo for evaluation. He probably won't be an option for Saturday's game in Columbus, but a timeline for his return remains unclear. He has posted a 10-6-3 record this season with one shutout, a 2.82 GAA and a .906 save percentage across 21 appearances. With Lyon out, Colten Ellis (concussion) is poised to come off injured reserve to serve as Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen's backup against the Stars.

  • Sabres' Alex Lyon: Suffers injury Monday

Lyon suffered a lower-body injury in Monday's 4-2 win over St. Louis, according to Rachel Lenzi of The Buffalo News on Tuesday. Lyon didn't participate in Tuesday's practice, and it's unclear if he will be available for Wednesday's road matchup against Dallas. He has won his last seven outings while allowing only 15 goals on 185 shots. If Lyon misses game action, Colten Ellis (concussion) could come off injured reserve to push Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen for playing time.

  • Sabres' Alex Lyon: Win streak up to seven

Lyon stopped 16 of 18 shots on goal in Monday's 4-2 win over the Blues. Outside of a tough first period where he allowed two goals, Lyon shut down the Blues to help guide the Sabres to their ninth consecutive win. With Monday's victory, he is up to a 10-6-3 record with a .906 save percentage and a 2.82 GAA through 21 appearances this season. The 33-year-old netminder has been a large part of the Sabres' recent success and used Monday's victory to raise his own win streak to seven straight appearances. A very small list of goalies are currently playing better than Lyon, who has a .919 save percentage and a 2.22 GAA during the team's win streak. He is a top waiver-wire add in all fantasy formats, and his next chance to take the ice is Wednesday in Dallas.

He's allowed 13 goals on 167 shots (.922 save percentage) during the streak. Lyon is up to a 9-6-3 record, 2.87 GAA and .907 save percentage in 20 appearances this season. The Blues rank last in goals per game with 2.51, so this is a favorable matchup for Lyon.

  • Sabres' Alex Lyon: Patrolling crease Tuesday

Lyon will be in goal on the road against the Senators on Tuesday, Mike Harrington of The Buffalo News reports. Lyon is undefeated in his last five outings while posting a 2.31 GAA and .922 save percentage. With the 33-year-old netminder performing at this level, it seems head coach Lindy Ruff is content to ride the hot hand and utilize Lyon ahead of Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen.

  • Sabres' Alex Lyon: Set to start Saturday

Lyon is expected to start at home against the Islanders on Saturday, per Rachel Lenzi of The Buffalo News. Lyon will attempt to extend his four-game winning streak. He's allowed nine goals on 107 shots (.916 save percentage) across that stretch, which gives him a 7-6-3 record, 2.99 GAA and .904 save percentage in 18 appearances this season. The Islanders rank 23rd in goals per game with 2.86.

Lyon allowed three goals on 27 shots in a 5-3 victory over the Flyers on Thursday. Lyon is riding a four-game winning streak during which he has posted a 2.44 GAA and .916 save percentage. With the 33-year-old backstop rolling, the Sabres could decide to use him in two of his next three games before the Christmas break, with Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen the likely starter in the other contest.

  • Sabres' Alex Lyon: Steady in win

Lyon stopped 30 of 32 shots in Thursday's 3-2 win over the Canucks. Lyon's got a chance to claim a larger share of playing time while Colten Ellis (concussion) is on injured reserve. This was Lyon's second straight win, and he's allowed five goals on 56 shots in that span. For the season, the 33-year-old netminder is at a 5-6-3 record with a 3.13 GAA and a .902 save percentage over 16 appearances. Lyon will probably struggle to consistently earn wins, but he's been a passable fantasy goalie when he's getting enough playing time.

  • Sabres' Alex Lyon: First goalie off Thursday

Lyon was the first goalie off during Thursday's morning skate, Matthew Fairburn of The Athletic reports, indicating that he'll draw the road start against Vancouver. Lyon was in the starter's crease during Thursday's morning skate, and although he briefly left the ice with an apparent injury, he returned shortly later and should serve as the starting netminder against Vancouver. The Canucks are scoring 2.77 goals per game this season, which is tied for the eighth-worst mark in the league.

  • Sabres' Alex Lyon: Needed in relief Monday

Lyon stopped all four shots he faced after replacing Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen to begin the third period of Monday's 7-4 loss to the Flames. The switch had more to do with the poor play of the Sabres' defense than it did Luukkonen's performance, but Lyon did his part in giving Buffalo a chance to mount a comeback from a 5-3 deficit. Lyon has started only one of the last 12 games, falling behind Luukkonen and Colten Ellis on the depth chart, but the team continues to carry three goalies rather than risk losing one on waivers. On the season, Lyon has a 3-6-3 record in 14 outings with a 3.16 GAA and a .901 save percentage.

  • Sabres' Alex Lyon: Allows five goals

Lyon stopped 18 of 23 shots in Friday's 5-0 loss to New Jersey. Lyon built a solid performance through two periods before he allowed three goals in the third. With the loss, the 32-year-old goaltender has a 3-6-3 record with a 3.23 GAA and a .899 save percentage through 13 outings this season. After a decent start to the campaign, Lyon is trending downward in fantasy and hasn't found the win column since Oct. 24. He has also dropped to third on the Sabres' depth chart behind Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen and Colten Ellis, who each have two wins or more in November. While Lyon remains off the fantasy radar for the time being, he could become a relevant streaming option if one of Buffalo's other two netminders picks up an injury.

  • Sabres' Alex Lyon: Gets quick hook Thursday

Lyon stopped one of three shots before he was relieved by Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen in Thursday's 6-3 loss to the Avalanche. It was clear enough from the jump that Lyon didn't have it, prompting head coach Lindy Ruff to make a quick switch. That early move spared Lyon from taking the loss, but the 32-year-old's GAA rose from 2.92 to 3.07 while his save percentage dipped from .911 to .907 due to this poor outing. He's 3-5-3 on the year as well, and he if can't turn things around soon, he may cede some playing time to Luukkonen or Colten Ellis. The Sabres wrap up their current road trip in Detroit on Saturday.

  • Sabres' Alex Lyon: In goal Thursday

Lyon will start in goal on the road versus the Avalanche on Thursday, Paul Hamilton of WGR Sports Radio 550 reports. This is contrary to a previous report that said Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen would start, but Lyon was the first goalie on the ice Thursday for warmups. Since the Sabres are carrying three goalies, it's unlikely this is an injury situation and simply just a mix-up. Lyon has lost his last four outings (0-1-3) with 14 goals allowed on 129 shots in that span.

  • Sabres' Alex Lyon: Slated starter Saturday

Lyon is expected to start on the road against Carolina on Saturday, per Ryan Henkel of The Hockey News. Lyon has gone 0-0-3 over his past three appearances while allowing 10 goals on 96 shots (.896 save percentage). That rough patch has left him with a 3-4-3 record, 2.80 GAA and .915 save percentage through 10 outings overall. Carolina ranks fourth in goals per game with 3.62 this year.

  • Sabres' Alex Lyon: Takes tough loss Tuesday

Lyon stopped 33 shots in Tuesday's 2-1 overtime loss to the Mammoth. The 32-year-old was locked in a goaltending duel with Karel Vejmelka through two periods before Nick Schmaltz opened the scoring early in the third. Lyon was still able to earn Buffalo a point even though the Sabres were outshot 12-3 in the final 20 minutes of regulation. Lyon has overtime losses in each of his last three straight starts. His record is at 3-4-3 through 10 outings with a 2.80 GAA and a .915 save percentage.

  • Sabres' Alex Lyon: Comes up short in OT

Lyon made 18 saves in Thursday's 4-3 overtime loss to the Bruins. Buffalo outshot the home squad 40-22 on the night, but Boston made its chances count in regulation and then got the only three shots on net in OT. Lyon's strong start to the season may be fading -- he's allowed 14 goals on 125 shots (.888 save percentage) while going 1-1-2 over his last four outings, as he works in a timeshare with Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen.

  • Sabres' Alex Lyon: Falls to Jackets in OT

Lyon made 35 saves in Tuesday's 4-3 overtime loss to Columbus. The Sabres had 2-1 and 3-2 leads, but Lyon shouldn't shoulder the blame for any of the pucks that got past him. The veteran netminder continues to see a high volume of rubber behind a shaky Sabres defense, getting peppered with at least 30 shots in all eight of his starts en route to a 3-4-1 record, 2.77 GAA and .919 save percentage. Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen made his season debut Saturday after recovering from a lower-body injury. It's a crowded crease situation with Colten Ellis also in the mix, but Lyon has built a strong case for himself to maintain a significant role.

  • Sabres' Alex Lyon: Slated to start Friday

Lyon is expected to defend the home crease against the Maple Leafs on Friday, Luke Fox of Sportsnet reports. Lyon got his first night off Wednesday against the Red Wings, but he'll return to the crease in the first half of a back-to-back set Friday. Over his first six starts of the season, he's gone 2-4-0 with a 2.54 GAA and a .924 save percentage.

  • Sabres' Alex Lyon: Starting Saturday

Lyon will be between the home pipes versus Florida on Saturday, according to Heather Engel of NHL.com. Lyon will make his fifth straight start due to the absence of Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen (lower body). Lyon finally picked up his first win of the season, stopping 33 shots in an 8-4 victory over Ottawa on Wednesday. He has a 1-3-0 record with a 3.05 GAA and a .912 save percentage.
