Top Gabriel Fontaine News

  • Gabriel Fontaine: Dropped by Blueshirts

Fontaine will not get a qualifying offer from the Rangers on Monday, making him an unrestricted free agent, Larry Brooks of The New York Post reports.

Fontaine spent time on the New York roster this season but was never able to force his way into a game. The 24-year-old center could still sign a minor-league contract with AHL Hartford to link himself to the organization but would be ineligible to be called up. As such, fantasy players shouldn't be expecting much out of Fontaine this season or even beyond.

  • Rangers' Gabriel Fontaine: Reassigned to AHL

Fontaine was sent to AHL Hartford on Sunday, according to CapFriendly.

Fontaine scored one assist in four AHL games this season and has yet to make his NHL debut. The 24-year-old is mostly an organizational depth piece right now.

  • Rangers' Gabriel Fontaine: Ascends to taxi squad

Fontaine was promoted to the Rangers' taxi squad Saturday, per CapFriendly.

Fontaine will get another taste on the taxi squad this season, as he's produced just one assist in four games with AHL Hartford. Fontaine isn't in the lineup for Thursday's game against New Jersey, but he'll add depth, replacing Jonny Brodzinski on the taxi squad.

  • Rangers' Gabriel Fontaine: Dropped to minors

Fontaine was reassigned to AHL Hartford on Monday, CapFriendly reports.

Fontaine figures to be frequently shifted between levels this year but will almost certainly play most of his games in the minors, making him a non-factor in fantasy contests.

  • Rangers' Gabriel Fontaine: Up with taxi squad

Fontaine was promoted to the Rangers' taxi squad Saturday.

The 23-year-old forward has yet to make his NHL debut. Don't expect Fontaine to change that while he's on the taxi squad -- it's much more likely he returns to AHL Hartford in the near future.

  • Rangers' Gabriel Fontaine: Heads to minors

Fontaine was assigned to AHL Hartford on Sunday, TSN reports.

Fontaine has yet to make his NHL debut. The 2016 sixth-round pick suited up in 13 AHL games last season and posted three points and a plus-2 rating. He'll likely stay in the minors for most of the year.

  • Rangers' Gabriel Fontaine: Waived by Rangers

Fontaine was waived by the Rangers on Monday, Rick Carpiniello of The Athletic reports.

Fontaine's last AHL campaign was cut short by injury, so he'll have a chance to reestablish his value in Hartford this season. The 2016 sixth-round pick is unlikely to draw into any NHL action in 2021.

  • Rangers' Gabriel Fontaine: Agrees to terms with Rangers

Fontaine has agreed to terms on a new contract with the Rangers.

The specifics of the deal have yet to be disclosed, but it's safe to assume Fontaine's new contract is of the two-way variety. The 23-year-old forward picked up three points in 13 games with AHL Hartford last season and almost certainly won't see any action in the NHL in 2020-21.

  • Rangers' Gabriel Fontaine: Filling important role for AHL Hartford

Fontaine scored twice in AHL Hartford's 7-3 win over Wilkes-Barre/Scranton on Friday.

Fontaine parlayed an unexpectedly strong training camp into an expanded role with the Wolf Pack and the results have been positive. He has just four goals and no assists on the season, but Fontaine is known for his hockey IQ and penalty-killing prowess as opposed to putting up points, and he has excelled in those areas. Mature beyond his 20 years of age, Fontaine isn't far away in helping the Rangers in a depth role.
