Although Philp was back at practice Monday, he's expected to require at least another week before he's in the mix to return to game action. The 27-year-old has been on long-term injured reserve since mid-November due to an upper-body injury. He made 15 appearances prior to his absence, recording two goals, an assist, 24 hits, four PIM and two blocked shots while averaging 10:02 of ice time.

After three games as a healthy scratch, Philp scored in his second consecutive appearance with a goal in the second period. With the tally, he is up to two goals and five shots on net in three outings. Sunday's goal was the second of his NHL career across 18 games. His recent success makes the organization of Edmonton's line chart a tricky decision for Kris Knoblauch. If Philp is kept in the lineup, expect him to serve in a bottom-six role. Philp opened the scoring at 12:21 of the second period with the first goal of his NHL career. It came in his 17th appearance, all of which have been over the last two seasons for the 27-year-old. It's been a winding path to the NHL for Philp, but he has a chance to maintain a bottom-six job early in 2025-26.
