Mack Brown will have to excuse Marquise Goodwin if he needs to miss a few workouts this summer, though he has a pretty solid excuse for doing so.

Over the weekend the Texas wide receiver qualified for the Olympics and will compete in the long jump for the U.S. Olympic track and field team.

Goodwin set a personal best with a jump of 8.33 meters at the Olympic trials. That's 27 feet and 4.25 inches for those of us not on the metric system. Whichever system you use, though, that's a pretty impressive leap.

Mack Brown has to be happy knowing that with a full head of steam behind him, Goodwin can leap into the end zone from the nine-yard line if he needs to.

Goodwin was expected to redshirt last season as he prepared for the Olympics, but returned to the football team after Texas' season opener against Rice. He finished 2011 with 33 receptions for 421 yards and 2 touchdowns.

Here's hoping he can start 2012 with a gold medal.
