Orioles' Joseph Ortiz: Requires shoulder surgery

Ortiz will undergo surgery to repair a torn labrum in his left shoulder, Nathan Ruiz of The Baltimore Sun reports.

Ortiz has been on the shelf at Double-A Bowie the past two weeks with the injury, and he'll face an extended absence while recovering from the procedure. The young shortstop is expected to miss the rest of the season, though he should be ready for spring training.
