  • Cardinals' Krys Barnes: Fills in adequately

Barnes made nine tackles (eight solo), including a tackle for a loss, in Sunday's 34-13 loss to the Packers. The middle linebacker was playing in place of Kyzir White, who exited in the second quarter with a knee injury. Barnes played on more than 19 percent of Arizona's defensive snaps just once in the first five games, and his playing time moving forward might depend on White's status.

  • Cardinals' Krys Barnes: Back on Cardinals' roster

The Cardinals signed Barnes off the practice squad to the active roster Thursday, Darren Urban of the team's official site reports. Barnes was initially omitted from Arizona's 53-man roster at the end of training camp and signed to the practice squad Wednesday. That was a deliberate move by the Cardinals, who needed to keep a spot on the initial roster open for Elijah Jones (heel) after placing Darius Robinson (calf) and Christian Jones (ankle) in the two spots dedicated to players placed on injured reserve who are designated to return. With Jones now placed on IR without having to miss the entire 2024 season, Barnes was brought back onto the active roster Thursday. Barnes played in 16 regular-season games in 2023 and finished with 55 tackles (35 solo), six passes defended and one interception.

Barnes finished Sunday's 35-31 win over the Eagles with seven tackles (four solo). Barnes and Antonio Hamilton finished tied for the most tackles on Arizona's defense Sunday. • Cardinals' Krys Barnes: Officially questionable

Barnes (finger) has drawn a questionable designation ahead of Sunday's matchup with the 49ers. Barnes logged consecutive limited workloads at practice to close out the week after spending Wednesday on the sidelines. He has been filling in for Josh Woods (ankle), who is set to miss his third straight game. So, if Barnes cannot go, Owen Pappoe and Victor Dimukeje would be candidates for increased snaps.

Barnes (hand) is questionable to return after he left Sunday's contest with the Cowboys in the fourth quarter, Darren Urban of the Cardinals' official site reports. Barnes (hand) was listed as a full participant in Thursday's practice report, Tom Silverstein of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports. Barnes was a limited participant for Wednesday's practice, but it appears his hand has healed enough that he should be ready to go Sunday against the Eagles. His ability to play will be big for the Packers' defense if De'Vondre Campbell (knee) is out for another game.

  • Packers' Krys Barnes: Game-high 12 stops Thursday

Barnes recorded 12 tackles (six solo) and one sack during Thursday's 27-17 loss to the Titans. With De'Vondre Campbell ruled out for Thursday's game against Tennessee, Barnes filled in at linebacker and led both teams with 12 tackles on the night. The 24-year-old has missed eight games so far in 2022 due to a high-ankle sprain and a concussion, but over his last two contests, he's amassed 20 tackles and one sack on just 67 defensive snaps. While Quay Walker sustained an apparent shoulder injury Thursday and remains questionable heading into the team's Week 12 matchup in Philadelphia, Barnes could potentially see a massive uptick in snaps if either Campbell or Walker are unable to suit up next week.

  • Packers' Krys Barnes: Full participant Monday

Barnes (concussion) was listed as a full participant on the Packers' estimated practice report Monday. Barnes sustained a concussion during Green Bay's Week 9 loss to the Lions, and he did not practice before being ruled out ahead of Sunday's 31-28 overtime win against the Cowboys. The Packers did not hold a practice Monday, so it's unclear if he's officially cleared the league's protocol for head injuries. With starting inside linebacker De'Vondre Campbell (knee) also dealing with an injury, it will be worth monitoring Barnes' status heading into Thursday Night Football against Tennessee.

  • Packers' Krys Barnes: Unlikely for Week 10

Barnes (concussion) is doubtful for Sunday's game against the Cowboys, Wes Hodkiewicz of the Packers' official site reports. Barnes suffered a concussion late in Green Bay's Week 9 loss to Detroit and has been in the league's protocol since. He failed to practice in any capacity, so he is a long shot to suit up against Dallas. Barnes missed seven consecutive games due to an ankle injury earlier in the season.

  • Packers' Krys Barnes: Suffering from concussion

Barnes did not practice Wednesday due to a concussion. Barnes was shaken up late in a Week 9 loss to Detroit, and he was subsequently diagnosed with a concussion. He led the Packers with eight tackles before getting hurt, helping to make up for the absence of De'Vondre Campbell (knee). Barnes will now need to pass through league protocols before he's able to return, and with Campbell still questionable, the Packers could be quite shorthanded at inside linebacker in Week 10.

  • Packers' Krys Barnes: Goes to IR with ankle injury

Green Bay placed Barnes (ankle) on its injured reserve list Tuesday. Barnes was carted off the field with a high ankle sprain during the Packers' loss at Minnesota on Sunday and will now miss at least the next four games. If 2022 first-rounder Quay Walker is also unavailable for Week 2 versus Chicago, Isaiah McDuffie would probably be in line for snaps at linebacker behind 2021 All-Pro De'Vondre Campbell.

  • Packers' Krys Barnes: Avoids substantial injury

Packers coach Matt LaFleur said Monday that Barnes (ankle) likely "avoided significant injury," after being carted off with a high ankle sprain during Sunday's season-opening loss to the Vikings, Wes Hodkiewicz of the team's official site reports. Barnes will still likely be sidelined for multiple weeks, but LaFleur's comments are an encouraging sign given the initially concerning appearance of this injury. The 24-year-old recorded 161 tackles over 29 regular-season games for Green Bay during the past two years, and he should still slot into a prominent reserve role behind inside linebackers De'Vondre Campbell and Quay Walker (shoulder) when healthy in 2022.
