VIDEO: Devils debut new fan-generated goal song
The New Jersey Devils have a new goal song and it was completely generated by the team's fans. It is sure to pump up the home crowd and get under the opposing team's skin.
The New Jersey Devils have a new goal song after years of using Gary Glitter’s Rock n’ Roll Pt. 2 and trying out a Bon Jovi tune last year with no success. The interesting thing about the new song that will be played after goals (and it could get a lot more use this year with the way things are going) is that it was fueled in large part by actual Devils fans.
Song producer by Rich Andruska got real Devils fans involved to help with the recording so that when the music blares over the loud speakers, it will be a song for Devils fans by Devils fans. The chants intertwined into the song were all recorded by the fans.
Goal songs should have two purposes. First, it should pump up the crowd and get them engaged. Triggering chants is a good way to do that and the Devils certainly won’t have a problem with a “Let’s Go Devils” chant in the actual song.
The second responsibility a goal song has is to annoy the heck out of the other team. Think Chicago’s use of Chelsea Dagger or the New York Rangers’ original goal song. The fans sing along, it gets stuck in your head, and you’ll never want to hear it again if you’re on the opposing team.
So in that regard, this song is probably going to be a hit with fans and not in the least with opponents. Just like it should be.
Andruska talked about how the song was produced and why it was important to get the fans engaged with the actually recording of the tune here:
