  • Giants' Andru Phillips: Tallies 12 tackles Sunday

Phillips recorded 12 tackles (seven solo), including a sack, in Sunday's Week 2 loss to Washington.

Phillips finished second on New York with his big tackle total. The rookie also recorded his first career sack, getting to Jayden Daniels for a five-yard loss in the first quarter. Phillips did get checked for a concussion in the fourth quarter but was subsequently cleared and returned to the contest. He's impressed through two NFL games and appears set to be a big part of the Giants' secondary this season.

  • Giants' Andru Phillips: Back at practice

Phillips (ankle) is practicing Tuesday, Art Stapleton of The Bergen Record reports.

Phillips injured his ankle during 11-on-11 drills last Sunday, leaving the rookie sidelined for more than a week. Currently slated to be the team's slot corner, the Kentucky product's return to competition, should help him maintain that spot, if not potentially unseat Deonte Banks or Cor'Dale Flott (quadriceps) for a starting job on the outside.

  • Giants' Andru Phillips: Dealing with ankle injury

Phillips left Sunday's practice session due to an ankle injury, Pat Leonard of the New York Daily News reports.

Phillips sustained the injury during 11-on-11 drills Sunday, and he was held out of Monday's practice session. The rookie third-round pick out of Kentucky is set to operate as the Giants' third corner alongside starters Cor'Dale Flott (quadriceps) and Deonte Banks. Tre Herndon took Phillips' place in drills Monday, and the former would be in line to see more first-team snaps should the latter be unable to suit up for Saturday's preseason game against the Texans.

  • Giants' Andru Phillips: New York selects in third round

The Giants selected Phillips in the third round of the 2024 NFL Draft, 70th overall.

Phillips (5-foot-11, 190 pounds) is a bit smallish for a corner and lacks the conventional reach for press coverage (31 and 1/4-inch arms), but the Kentucky standout is a very springy athlete with some of the best jumps over many classes (42-inch vertical, 135-inch broad jump). Phillips projects as the Giants' third corner behind Deonte Banks and Cor'Dale Flott.
