  • Matheson (face) was labeled week-to-week ahead of Monday's matchup with the Flyers, Matt Vensel of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports. With just four games remaining, Matheson will be sidelined for the rest of the regular season and could be unavailable for the start of the playoffs as well. The 27-year-old blueliner has registered just one point in his last six contests but has been critical to the club's pursuit of an East Division title. With Matheson shelved, Mark Friedman figures to jump into the lineup while John Marino and Marcus Pettersson should see significant upticks in ice time.

  • Matheson was hit in the face by a puck in the second period of Saturday's game versus the Capitals, Tom Gulitti of NHL.com reports. Matheson was hit by a puck on a clearing attempt by goalie Tristan Jarry. Matheson was bleeding as he left the ice and it's unclear if he'll be able to get back into Saturday's contest.

  • Matheson recorded two assists, three shots on goal and a plus-2 rating in Sunday's 5-2 win over the Devils. Matheson set up Colton Sceviour's second goal of the game in the first period and added a helper on Jake Guentzel's empty-netter in the third. The 27-year-old Matheson has gotten quite comfortable lately with two goals and seven assists in his last 10 games. The blueliner is at 13 points, 68 shots, 33 hits, 30 blocked shots and a plus-5 rating through 34 appearances overall.

  • Matheson picked up a goal and an assist in Tuesday's 8-4 loss to the Rangers. Matheson has put together an impressive four-game point streak (two goals, four assists). The hot streak probably won't last much longer considering he had only five points in his first 27 games with the Penguins, but Matheson could be worth a look in the short term while he's rolling.

  • Matheson scored the game-winning goal Thursday in a 4-1 victory over the Penguins. It was a pretty end-to-end rush for the defender. He roared down the right side, burst past the defender while protecting the puck and drove hard at Daniel Vladar. Matheson slid the puck wide and around the sprawling netminder, and pushed it home. Matheson has gotten warm of late -- he has four points in his last five games.
