Reinhart signed a one-year, $5.2 million contract with the Sabres on Sunday, Chris Ryndak of the team's official site reports. Reinhart had an arbitration hearing on the schedule, but the two parties will avoid the independent mediator, as they agreed to terms Sunday. The 2014 second-overall pick has been a top-three scorer in Buffalo in each of the past five seasons, totaling 109 goals and 254 points in that stretch, and he hit double-digit points on the power play every year. It's a bridge contract of sorts, but the 24-year-old winger will still be a restricted free agent next offseason.
Reinhart recorded 22 goals and 28 assists in 69 games prior to the mid-March pause of play. Despite an ugly minus-15 rating, Reinhart has returned to the 50-point plateau for the third straight season after amassing 65 last year and 50 in 2017-18. The 2014 second-overall pick routinely skates on the Sabres' top line with star Jack Eichel and former 40-goal scorer Jeff Skinner, which is an assignment that should continue to produce results for Reinhart and his owners.
Reinhart is in the midst of a six-game point drought. This six-game span is the longest drought of the season for Reinhart. He's still having a fairly successful campaign with 50 points in 67 outings. He'll need to snap the drought soon, though, if he hopes to take a run at cracking the career-high 65 points he posted last year.
Reinhart scored an even-strength goal and added a power-play assist in Saturday's 5-2 win over the Penguins. All his production came in the first period, during which the Sabres grabbed a 3-0 lead that the Pens couldn't erase. Reinhart now has 22 goals and 50 points through 61 games, his third straight campaign with 50-plus points.
Reinhart scored the game-winning goal and added an assist in Tuesday's 3-2 win over the Red Wings. He jammed home a loose puck 57 seconds into the third period to give the Sabres their first lead of the game, and Carter Hutton took care of the rest. Reinhart continues to roll in 2020, scoring nine goals and 16 points in 16 games since the calendar flipped to January.
