Gilbert (elbow) was reassigned Tuesday to the minor-league side of Diamondbacks camp. Gilbert had surrendered 10 earned runs through only 5.1 innings of work this spring in Cactus League play. It should be noted that the 29-year-old southpaw finished the 2022 season on the 60-day injured list with a left elbow sprain.... See More ... See Less

Diamondbacks' Tyler Gilbert: Appears healthy for spring
Gilbert (elbow) tossed two innings and gave up two runs on five hits while striking out one in his Cactus League debut Feb. 28 in the Diamondbacks' 4-1 loss to the White Sox. Gilbert closed the 2022 season on the 60-day injured list due to a left elbow sprain, but his return to game action early in the Diamondbacks' Cactus League slate offers encouragement that he's now moved past the health concern. Arizona removed Gilbert from its 40-man roster in December, so he could have a tough time getting another look in the majors unless he dazzles at Triple-A Reno. He struggled mightily over his 44 innings in the Pacific Coast League in 2022, logging a 7.57 ERA and 1.80 WHIP.... See More ... See Less -
Diamondbacks' Tyler Gilbert: Outrighted to Triple-A
Gilbert cleared waivers and was outrighted to Triple-A Reno on Thursday. Gilbert will remain in the organization after passing through waivers unclaimed. The left-hander posted a 5.24 ERA in 34.1 innings in 2022 before an elbow injury ended his season.... See More ... See Less -
Diamondbacks' Tyler Gilbert: Designated for assignment
The Diamondbacks designated Gilbert (elbow) for assignment Thursday. It's unclear whether Gilbert has made a full recovery from a left elbow strain that ended his 2022 season in early August. Having posted a 5.24 ERA in 34.1 innings before the injury, Gilbert appears unlikely to draw much interest on waivers. Then again, his 2021 no-hitter demonstrated his potential when healthy.... Diamondbacks' Tyler Gilbert: Shifts to 60-day IL
Gilbert (elbow) was transferred to the 60-day injured list Wednesday. Gilbert landed on the injured list last week due to a left elbow sprain, and he'll be unavailable until at least late September after being transferred to the 60-day IL. It's not yet clear whether the Diamondbacks expect him to return prior to the end of the regular season, but it wouldn't be surprising to see him held out for the remainder of the year since Arizona isn't in playoff contention. Tommy Henry's contract was selected Wednesday, and the promising prospect will take Gilbert's place in the rotation.... See More ... See Less -
Diamondbacks' Tyler Gilbert: Goes four innings in no-decision
Gilbert didn't factor into the decision during Tuesday's 7-3 victory over San Francisco, allowing two runs on four hits and one walk with two strikeouts in four innings. Making his fourth start of July, Gilbert kept San Francisco quiet aside from a Wilmer Flores two-run home run in the third inning. Despite a reasonable 71 pitches through four frames, manager Torey Lovullo opted to turn to the bullpen with the top of the Giants' lineup due to bat a third time in the fifth inning. The 28-year-old has pitched well this month to the tune of a 2.95 ERA across 18.1 innings while surrendering no more than three runs in any start. However, the lefty remains winless. He carries a 5.24 ERA and 1.25 WHIP into his next start, tentatively scheduled for next week against Cleveland.... See More ... See Less -
Diamondbacks' Tyler Gilbert: Permits three runs Saturday
Gilbert allowed three runs on five hits and a walk with one strikeout in five-plus innings in a no-decision versus the Padres on Saturday. Gilbert allowed only one run through five innings, but he put two runners aboard in the sixth. Luke Voit then took reliever Noe Ramirez deep for a three-run home run, denying Gilbert a chance at his first win of the season. Despite the late fade, this was a decent performance for the southpaw. He ends the first half of 2022 with a 5.34 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and 18:9 K:BB in 30.1 innings, and he'll look to improve upon his 0-3 record after the All-Star break.... See More ... See Less -
Diamondbacks' Tyler Gilbert: Fires 5.2 scoreless innings
Gilbert didn't factor into the decision during Sunday's 3-2 loss to Colorado, allowing three hits and one walk with one strikeout in 5.2 scoreless innings. After working out of a two-on, one-out jam in the first inning, Gilbert cruised the rest of the way and was in line for his first win until the Arizona bullpen surrendered three runs in the seventh. The 28-year-old has allowed one run in 9.2 innings since rejoining the rotation July 5, though he's struck out only three batters in the span. With the successful performances, Gilbert has lowered his ERA from 7.88 to 5.33 while his WHIP sits at 1.26. He lines up for one more start against San Diego next weekend before the All-Star break.... See More ... See Less -
Diamondbacks' Tyler Gilbert: Solid in short start
Gilbert allowed a run on four hits and a walk with two strikeouts in 3.2 innings in a no-decision versus the Giants on Tuesday. The lone run against Gilbert was a sacrifice fly by Joc Pederson in the fourth inning. While he didn't pitch deep into Tuesday's game, throwing 34 strikes among 56 pitches, Gilbert put in a solid effort for a spot starter. He has a 6.86 ERA, 1.42 WHIP and 16:7 K:BB across 19.2 innings overall at the big-league level in 2022. If he remains in the rotation, he's lined up for a home start versus the Rockies this weekend.... See More ... See Less -
Diamondbacks' Tyler Gilbert: Called up for Tuesday's start
Gilbert was recalled from Triple-A Reno to start Tuesday versus the Giants. The Diamondbacks are in need of an extra starter with Zach Davies (shoulder) on the injured list, and Gilbert will receive the call to start Tuesday. The left-hander has struggled through four big-league outings this year with a 7.88 ERA across 16 innings, but a strong showing against San Francisco could earn him another turn through the rotation.... Diamondbacks' Tyler Gilbert: Getting spot start
The Diamondbacks will call Gilbert up from Triple-A Reno to start Tuesday's game against the Giants, Theo Mackie of The Arizona Republic reports. Gilbert was hit hard in his last outing with the big-league club, surrendering seven runs (six earned) on five hits and two walks while fanning two over 1.2 frames against the Reds on June 7. It's worth noting that he's given up three runs or fewer in his last four minor-league starts since that nightmarish performance with Arizona, but the Giants will be a tough test for the 28-year-old southpaw.... Diamondbacks' Tyler Gilbert: Demoted after rough start
The Diamondbacks optioned Gilbert to Triple-A Reno on Wednesday. Gilbert's demotion comes as little surprise after he was blasted for seven runs (six earned) on five hits and two walks over 1.2 innings in Tuesday's 14-8 loss to the Reds. The Diamondbacks still have a need for a No. 5 starter while Humberto Castellanos (elbow) is on the shelf, but the newly signed Dallas Keuchel or Caleb Smith look like the frontrunners for the job when Gilbert's next turn in the rotation comes up this weekend in Philadelphia.... Diamondbacks' Tyler Gilbert: Rocked for six earned runs
Gilbert (0-3) took the loss Tuesday against the Reds after surrendering seven runs (six earned) on five hits with two strikeouts and two walks over 1.2 innings. The 28-year-old threw only 31 of his 55 pitches for strikes, and homers from Joey Votto and Brandon Drury accounted for five of the runs against him. The left-hander was promoted from Triple-A Reno for Tuesday's start with Humberto Castellanos (elbow) on the injured list, but Gilbert's performance certainly didn't help his case for a rotation spot. He gave up two runs in his first two outings of the season but has allowed six earned runs in his past two starts.... See More ... See Less -
Diamondbacks' Tyler Gilbert: Confirmed to start Tuesday
The Diamondbacks will recall Gilbert from Triple-A Reno to start Tuesday's game against the Reds in Cincinnati, Jody Jackson of Bally Sports Arizona reports. With Humberto Castellanos (elbow) moving to the 15-day injured list last week, Gilbert will be summoned from the minors to fill the opening in the rotation. Even though Castellanos is likely to miss at least two turns through the rotation, Gilbert may not serve as his replacement beyond Tuesday. Arizona signed veteran Dallas Keuchel to a minor-league deal Monday, and he could be called upon to fill in for Castellanos the next time his turn comes up this weekend in Philadelphia. Gilbert has turned in a 5.02 ERA and 1.12 WHIP in 14.1 innings with Arizona this season, but his ratios have been much more unsightly over his seven starts at Reno (10.65 ERA, 2.11 WHIP).... Diamondbacks' Tyler Gilbert: Sent back to Reno
The Diamondbacks optioned Gilbert to Triple-A Reno on Wednesday. The move was expected after Gilbert was designated as the 27th man for Tuesday's doubleheader with the Dodgers. He started the first game of the twin bill, taking the loss after giving up six runs on seven hits and two walks while striking out six over 5.2 innings.... See More ... See Less -
Diamondbacks' Tyler Gilbert: Serves up four homers
Gilbert (0-2) took the loss during Game 1 of Tuesday's doubleheader against the Dodgers after giving up six runs on seven hits with six strikeouts and two walks over 5.2 innings. The left-hander began the matinee by allowing only a solo home run through five innings, but he gave up five runs on two walks and four hits -- including three more long balls -- during the sixth frame. Gilbert had a 2.08 ERA across 8.2 innings to begin the season, but Tuesday's performance ballooned his ERA to 5.02, and he's now likely to return to Triple-A Reno after serving as the 27th man for the twin bill.... See More ... See Less -
Diamondbacks' Tyler Gilbert: Picking up spot start Tuesday
Gilbert will be called up from Triple-A Reno and is listed as the Diamondbacks' starting pitcher for the first game of Tuesday's doubleheader with the Dodgers. Arizona will likely designate Gilbert as the 27th man for the twin bill before sending him back out to Reno immediately after the start, his second of the season and third outing overall at the big-league level in 2022. Between his previous two appearances, Gilbert struck out six and allowed two earned runs on five hits and two walks over 8.2 innings. However, he's been much less productive over a larger sample of 14.2 innings at Triple-A this season, logging an 11.60 ERA, 1.90 WHIP and 6:5 K:BB across four starts.... See More ... See Less -
Diamondbacks' Tyler Gilbert: Optioned to Triple-A
Gilbert was optioned to Triple-A Reno on Thursday. Gilbert's first major-league appearance this year came as a starter, but he tossed three innings out of the bullpen during Monday's loss to the Dodgers. He'll now head back to the minors, where he's served as a starter in each of his first two outings of the season and will pitch as a starter upon his return. Luis Frias and Tyler Holton were called up to provide additional bullpen depth.... See More ... See Less -
Diamondbacks' Tyler Gilbert: Back in big leagues
Gilbert was recalled by the Diamondbacks on Monday. Gilbert made a spot start Tuesday in the second game of a doubleheader against the Nationals and looked good, allowing one run in 5.2 innings, but he wound up taking the loss. He's up on a seemingly more permanent basis this time around, though it's unclear what his role will be.... See More ... See Less -
Diamondbacks' Tyler Gilbert: Gets no help in spot start
Gilbert (0-1) took the loss during the second game of Tuesday's doubleheader against the Nationals, allowing one run on three hits and one walk over 5.2 innings. He struck out three. It was an impressive season debut for the 28-year-old lefty, who was called up earlier in the day to make a spot start, but unfortunately for Gilbert he had no margin for error as the Diamondbacks got shut out in the nightcap. He will likely be returned to Triple-A Reno, but Gilbert's performance might have been good enough to let him stick around in the majors in a swingman/sixth starter role.... See More ... See Less
