Top Zach Hyman News

  • Oilers' Zach Hyman: Scores twice in win

Hyman scored a pair of goals on three shots and went plus-3 in Wednesday's 5-2 win over the Penguins.

Both of Hyman's goals came in the first period. It appeared he earned a hat trick in the third, but that goal was called back for offside -- little consolation to the Oilers fans who lost their headgear. Hyman has fit seamlessly into the top six this year with 11 tallies, six assists, 63 shots on net, 19 hits and 14 PIM through 21 appearances.

Hyman scored a goal on a team-high six shots in Friday's 6-5 overtime win over the Rangers.

The 29-year-old Hyman is on a modest three-game point streak and now has seven goals and three assists through 10 contests overall. Unlike his slow start to the season, the winger is finding more productivity even as head coach Dave Tippett has separated him from Connor McDavid at even strength.

  • Oilers' Zach Hyman: Hands out assist

Hyman notched an assist and six shots on goal in Wednesday's 5-2 win over the Predators.

Head coach Dave Tippett shuffled his lines mid-game, sending Hyman to join Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and Kailer Yamamoto. It worked out, as Hyman set up Yamamoto for the go-ahead goal in the second period. Through nine games, Hyman has six goals, three helpers, 25 shots and a minus-4 rating, and he's in no danger of losing his place in the top six.

Hyman set up the second of Leon Draisaitl's goals in the first period. Through eight games, Hyman has six tallies, two assists, 19 shots on net and six hits and a minus-5 rating. He's playing on the top line and first power-play unit, to great success on offense, although he's not as physical as he's been in the past.

  • Oilers' Zach Hyman: Goal binge continues

Hyman scored a goal on three shots and added two PIM in Wednesday's 5-3 loss to the Flyers.

Hyman has found quite the groove recently, scoring five of his six goals this season in the last three games. The winger is up to seven points, 15 shots on net, six PIM and a minus-4 rating in six contests overall. His hot stretch has coincided with his move to a spot on Connor McDavid's line, so he should continue to be productive as long as head coach Dave Tippett keeps McDavid and Leon Draisaitl on separate lines.

  • Oilers' Zach Hyman: Shows skill on special teams

Hyman scored two goals, one on the power play and one shorthanded, in Thursday's 5-1 win over the Coyotes.

Hyman is the type of hard-working forward built to play in all situations, and he showed why Thursday. His shorthanded goal in the second period held up as the game-winner, and he tallied with the man advantage in the third. Through four games, Hyman has three goals, one assist, nine shots on net and a minus-3 rating. Most encouragingly -- head coach Dave Tippett shuffled his lines for Thursday's game, and Hyman drew an even-strength assignment alongside Connor McDavid.

  • Oilers' Zach Hyman: Mixed results in win

Hyman registered an assist and went minus-3 in Tuesday's 6-5 win over the Ducks.

The Oilers' second line didn't have as much success in Tuesday's game, but Hyman was still able to earn his second point in three games with his new team. The winger has added six shots on net, four PIM and two hits. Fantasy managers who expected Hyman to play alongside Connor McDavid or Leon Draisaitl are likely disappointed that hasn't happened much yet, but it's too early to give up on the winger, especially since his offense has been respectable so far.

  • Oilers' Zach Hyman: Scores in team debut

Hyman scored a power-play goal on three shots and added two PIM in Wednesday's 3-2 shootout win over the Canucks.

After plenty of thought as to whether Hyman would skate with Connor McDavid or Leon Draisaitl, he ended up flanking Ryan Nugent-Hopkins in the season opener. Hyman still got plenty of time with the Oilers' biggest stars on the power play, where he scored his first goal with his new team. The 29-year-old winger has registered between 33 and 41 points in each of the last four years, and he could be set for an even bigger output given the Oilers' elite man-advantage production.

  • Oilers' Zach Hyman: Deal with Edmonton made official

Hyman will sign a seven-year, $38.5 million contract with the Oilers on Wednesday, Darren Dreger of TSN reports.

Hyman has been an integral part of the Maple Leafs' top six over the past two seasons, picking up 36 goals, 34 helpers and 221 shots on net to go along with a plus-32 rating while averaging 19:13 of ice time through 94 appearances. Many expect Hyman to skate on Connor McDavid's wing in 2021-22, and if that comes to fruition, he could become a point-per-game player, which would obviously make him a highly attractive fantasy asset. Hyman's contract may not age well, but he could be just want Edmonton needs to get over the top in the immediate future.

  • Maple Leafs' Zach Hyman: Heading to Edmonton soon

Hyman is leaving Toronto and is expected to sign with Edmonton in free agency, reports The Athletic.

The Oilers were given permission to talk terms with Hyman, who is a pending UFA, before the opening of free agency next week. It is believed the winger is going to ink a seven- or eight-year deal with the Oilers that will pay him between $5-5.5 million per season. The Leafs simply can't match that kind of money and a trade for Hyman is being negotiated before the deadline. If that falls through, Edmonton will only be able to sign him to seven years at a higher cap hit.

  • Maple Leafs' Zach Hyman: Back in lineup for Game 1

Hyman (knee) will be in action against Montreal for Game 1 on Thursday, Jonas Siegel of The Athletic reports. Additionally, the winger has been activated off injured reserve, per the NHL media site.

Hyman will make his return following an 11-game stint on the sidelines due to his knee injury. Prior to getting hurt, the Toronto-born native tallied four goals, seven assists and 27 shots while averaging 18:42 of ice time in his previous 10 contests. With his spot on the top line alongside Auston Matthews and Mitch Marner, Hyman should provide top-end fantasy value heading into the best-of-seven series with Montreal.

Hyman (knee) practiced on the top line and first power-play unit Sunday, James Mirtle of The Athletic reports.

Hyman missed the last 11 games of the season and is currently on long-term injured reserve, but this news bodes well for his chances to return for Game 1 on Thursday against Montreal. Before that happens, he'll need to be formally activated from IR, so look for that news later in the week.
