Top Florian Xhekaj News

  • Canadiens' Florian Xhekaj: Posts three points Friday

Xhekaj scored a goal and added two assists in AHL Laval's 5-4 overtime win over Cleveland on Friday.

Xhekaj ended a six-game dry spell with the performance. He's done alright this season with 18 points over 41 appearances at the AHL level, though that's not particularly close to his 24-goal, 35-point effort over 69 regular-season games a year ago. Xhekaj got his first look with the Canadiens in late November, but he's unlikely to be anything more than a bottom-six option if he gets another call-up.

  • Canadiens' Florian Xhekaj: Strong in return to AHL

Xhekaj scored twice and added an assist in AHL Laval's 5-2 win over Belleville on Friday.

After a stint in the NHL, Xhekaj had his best game of the AHL campaign in his return to Laval. He's at four goals and seven points, as well as 44 PIM and a plus-6 rating through 17 appearances for the Rocket this season. Xhekaj could be a candidate to fill a depth role with the Canadiens again at some point this season.

  • Canadiens' Florian Xhekaj: Demoted after game

Xhekaj was reassigned to AHL Laval on Wednesday.

Xhekaj didn't suit up in Wednesday's 3-2 shootout win over the Jets. He posted one assist, four shots on net, nine hits and seven PIM over five outings during his first NHL stint. The Canadiens don't play until Saturday in Toronto, so this may be a move to get Xhekaj playing time with Laval before he gets called back up.

  • Canadiens' Florian Xhekaj: Pockets helper in NHL debut

Xhekaj notched an assist, two shots on goal, three hits and seven PIM in Saturday's 5-2 win over the Maple Leafs.

Xhekaj, a Hamilton, Ontario native, made his NHL debut Saturday, and his impact was felt instantly. The 21-year-old winger helped out on a Josh Anderson tally in the second period and fought Dakota Mermis in the third. Like his brother Arber, the younger Xhekaj brings a whole bunch of sandpaper to the lineup. Florian saw just 9:48 of ice time in a bottom-six role Saturday, and he'll likely have to compete with Joshua Roy for playing time initially.

  • Canadiens' Florian Xhekaj: Up from AHL

Xhekaj was summoned from AHL Laval on Friday.

Xhekaj has two goals, four points and 44 PIM in 16 outings with Laval in 2025-26. Joshua Roy was reassigned to the minors in a corresponding move. Xhekaj might take Roy's bottom-six spot in the lineup, which would result in Xhekaj making his NHL debut Saturday against Toronto.
