Tuesday's Champions League matches had a little bit of everything as Arsenal advanced to the last eight of the Champions League via a 4-2 shootout victory. After Arsenal and Porto traded 1-0 victories in each of their home matches, the duo couldn't be separated during 30 minutes of extra time leading to what turned into an excellent shootout. David Raya saved two penalties to push Arsenal through, keeping their dream of being European Champions alive. Raya stopped Galeno and Wendell while also getting a hand to Marko Grujic's take.

In the other match, things were much easier for Barcelona, as they defeated Napoli 3-1 to move on 4-2 on aggregate. With two goals in 14 minutes of play, Barcelona were off and running behind Fermin Lopez and Joao Cancelo before Napoli tried to push for a victory. Robert Lewandowski got the finishing goal to restore the advantage and close things out.

Tuesday's scores

  • Barcelona 3, Napoli 1
  • Arsenal 1, Porto 0 (Arsenal advances 4-2 on penalties)

Off to penalties

There's nothing to separate Arsenal and Porto after two legs and extra time, meaning this will be the first Champions League knockout round match that will be decided on penalties since the 2016 final won by Real Madrid.

Almost time for penalties?

115' This half of extra time has played out in very similar fashion to the last one, with the only shot so far coming from Arsenal's Saka, though he did not manage to find the target. Both teams continue to have their moments but Porto's already switching on players who have a strong record when it comes to penalties so it feels like spotkicks are looming.

Two changes for Arsenal

106' To start the second half of extra time, Nketiah comes on for Trossard and Zinchenko comes on for Kiwior.

Halftime of extra time

Both of these teams might need a goal, but between Porto's defensive game plan and tired legs for each team, neither side has done much to score that go-ahead goal. There's been just one shot in the first 15 minutes of extra time, and that was from Porto's Mehdi Taremi who sent it wide of the net.

Odegaard with a freekick

95' Arsenal earn a freekick on the right side of the pitch, which Odegaard uses as an opportunity to whip the ball into the penalty area but after a little bit of back-and-forth, the Gunners are not able to get a shot off.

Extra time it is

Arsenal and Porto are tied at one goal each in this tie, and so bonus soccer is on its way -- but will it be just as defensive as the first 90 minutes or will things open up?

Late flurry of chances

90'+3 That late attack-minded substitute has led to Arsenal spending the final minutes of regular time looking for a goal, taking three shots in the process. Not much has changed, though, and with the clock ticking away, extra time feels all but certain.

Lewy calls game

Seven mintues left and Barcelona closes it out. From Gundogan to Roberto to Lewandoski for the finish, Barcelona can rest a little better with their two goal lead restored in the closing moments of play.

Inching towards extra time

83' With less than 10 minutes on the clock and just one shot on target in the second half between both teams, extra time feels imminent but it looks like Arsenal's Mikel Arteta aims to avoid such a fate. He just switched off Jorginho for the much more offensive minded Gabriel Jesus, who forced a save with his first touch on the ball.

What a chance

Lindstrom had a chance from close range but he couldn't put it on target. Napoli have had plenty of opportunities to draw this level and they can only blame their finishing for this. Joao Felix will now enter for Raphinha as Barcelona looks to close this out with 10 minutes remaining.

Arsenal goal taken back

67' Havertz seemed to get the better of Pepe and Porto's high line and put the ball in the back of the net, but he's called for a shirt pull and the goal is called back for a foul. Still even in this tie.

Getting chippy

Yamal is brought down outside the box and while Barcelona will have a free kick due to the challenge this is now the fifth yellow handed out during play. Napoli has turned up the pressure but three players now on the pitch for them now have yellow cards.

Changes incoming

There's only so much pressure that Barcelona can withstand before shifting things a little in the second half and they'll be doing just that. Lopez will be replaced by Sergi Roberto while Romeu will enter for Christensen who is on a yellow card.

New half, same story

59' Porto may now be level in the tie, but they're sticking to the game plan from the first half. This second half has so far offered little in terms of quality attacking moments from either side, though both sides have shown some signs that they're eager to score another. That's especially true for Arsenal after Rice just forced Costa into an important save.

More of that, please

Barcelona had a chance to run their lead back to two goals before the half but will begin the second period of play up 3-2 on aggregate. Napoli are pushing for an equalizer and this looks like it will continue to be an end to end half of soccer.

Trossard scores for Arsenal

41' Odegaard and Trossard combine near the box, which allows the latter to find enough space to make a little run and score to make the score 1-0 on the day for Arsenal and 1-1 in this tie.

Chance after chance after chance

Di Lorenzo forced a great save out of ter Stegen with a header from close range as this game is moving at lightning speed. Through 35 minutes, the teams have combined for 14 shots with five finding the target and three goals already. With Napoli still chasing on aggregate, this won't be slowing down anytime soon either.

Porto at a glance

30' Half an hour in, and it's clear that Porto's game plan is the one that's dominating this match so far. It's clear the visitors have aimed to keep things nice and tidy defensively while boasting the ability to absorb whatever attacks Arsenal can build should things go awry. The Gunners may have six shots but are so far mustering an xG of just 0.45, not that Porto's doing better than that -- but they (technically) don't need a goal.

Life for Napoli!

It has been all Barcelona but in one swift move, it was a marauding center back Amir Rrahmani who was able to beat ter Stegen for the finish. It has been an electric start in Spain.

CANCELO

Two goals in less than two minutes as Raphinha rattles the post but Joao Cancelo is there to finish the job and before you can blink Barcelona are off and running and they want more. This could be out of reach before halftime.

Evanilson has a look

16' Saliba makes a mistake at the back and allows Evanilson to take a shot that sails just wide of the net. It's Porto's first shot of the game, and one of the most promising looks at goal so far today.

There we have it

It's Fermin Lopez who has been everywhere in the opening 15 minutes. It was a lovely goal with Raphinha playing an impressive cutback into the middle that he ran onto and drove past Meret for the left. Napoli will look for a response now.
