The Phillies optioned Allard to Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Tuesday. The 26-year-old joined the Phillies on a one-year, $1 million contract in January, but he'll unsurprisingly begin the campaign at Lehigh Valley since he still has a minor-league option. Allard missed the second half of last season due to left shoulder nerve irritation and made just six appearances between the majors and Triple-A.... See More ... See Less

Phillies' Kolby Allard: Inks one-year deal with Phillies
Allard signed a one-year, $1 million contract with the Phillies on Tuesday, Matt Gelb of The Athletic reports. Allard, 26, didn't pitch after mid-July last season because of left shoulder nerve inflammation, although he presumably was given a clean bill of health prior to inking his deal with Philadelphia. The left-hander has posted a career 6.10 ERA over 69 appearances (38 starts) at the major-league level, accumulating a 204:84 K:BB across 245 innings. He does have an option remaining, so Allard could begin 2024 at Triple-A Lehigh Valley.... See More ... See Less -
Kolby Allard: Heading out of Atlanta
Allard was non-tendered by Atlanta on Friday, MLB.com reports. He didn't pitch after July 16 due to left shoulder nerve inflammation. Allard was limited to 19 total innings between Triple-A and the majors in 2023. He has a career 6.10 ERA in 245 MLB innings.... See More ... See Less -
Braves' Kolby Allard: Placed on 60-day IL
Atlanta placed Allard on the 60-day injured list Tuesday with left shoulder nerve inflammation. Allard made an early exit from his start Sunday against the White Sox due to left shoulder tightness and will now be sidelined through at least the middle of September, if not the full remainder of the 2023 campaign. The 25-year-old southpaw had allowed nine earned runs on 16 hits and four walks through 12.1 major-league innings this season with Atlanta.... See More ... See Less -
Braves' Kolby Allard: Removed with shoulder tightness
Allard left Sunday's game against the White Sox with left shoulder tightness. Chicago added insult to injury in the form of four runs on seven hits, including a mammoth 461-foot shot off the bat of Jake Burger. Allard retired just five of the 12 batters he faced. His availability for his next start is up in the air. Allard probably isn't long for the rotation anyway with Max Fried (forearm) nearing a return.... See More ... See Less -
Braves' Kolby Allard: Goes five innings in no-decision
Allard gave up three runs on four hits and a walk while striking out three over five innings in a no-decision versus the Guardians on Tuesday. Allard threw 73 pitches (45 strikes) and left in line for the win until Kirby Yates struggled in the seventh inning to surrender Atlanta's lead. While it wasn't as sharp as his season debut versus the Twins, Allard has done well to keep baserunners down with a 0.93 WHIP over his first 9.2 innings of the campaign. He's posted an 11:2 K:BB as well. Allard is not expected to start again before the All-Star break, and he'll likely be at the back of the rotation to start the second half.... See More ... See Less -
Braves' Kolby Allard: Receives another start
Allard is scheduled to start Tuesday's game against the Guardians at Progressive Field. Allard will make his second straight turn through the rotation, filling the spot that previously belonged to rookie Jared Shuster, who was recently optioned to Triple-A Gwinnett. After spending the first three months of the season on the 60-day injured list while recovering from a Grade 2 oblique strain, Allard was activated following two minor-league rehab starts and immediately impressed in his 2023 debut with the big club. Though he took a no-decision last week in his start versus the Twins, Allard struck out eight over 4.2 scoreless innings while allowing just four baserunners. He induced swings and misses on 14 of his 71 pitches, showing the sort of strikeout upside that belies his career 19.0 K% over 237.1 big-league innings. While Allard doesn't have much of a reliable track record to fall back on beyond his previous start, he could make for a decent streaming option Tuesday versus a weak Cleveland offense.... Braves' Kolby Allard: Starting Wednesday vs. MIN
Allard (oblique) will start Wednesday's game against the Twins, Justin Toscano of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports. Allard will come off the 60-day injured list to make his first start of the 2023 season in the majors after suffering a Grade 2 oblique strain in the early portion of March. He's posted a 2.70 ERA with eight strikeouts over 6.2 innings in a pair of appearances with Triple-A Gwinnett. The left-hander will get a chance to be a part of the Atlanta rotation, but he'll have to pitch well considering several arms, including Michael Soroka and the recently demoted AJ Smith-Shawver, could be strong candidates for promotion in coming weeks.... Braves' Kolby Allard: Beginning rehab assignment
Allard (oblique) reported to Triple-A Gwinnett on Sunday to begin a rehab assignment. The left-hander opened the season on the 60-day injured list with a strained right oblique, but he's now been cleared for game action. Allard figures to require multiple appearances before being cleared to return from the injured list, so he likely won't be fully ready until at least early July. Even with Atlanta's injury issues in the rotation, the 25-year-old isn't guaranteed a spot on the big-league roster once healthy.... See More ... See Less -
Braves' Kolby Allard: Will begin season on injured list
Allard suffered a Grade 2 right oblique strain Thursday and will begin the season on the injured list, Justin Toscano of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports. Allard had been off to a strong start this spring, allowing just one earned run through five innings while striking out four batters. He was traded from Texas to Atlanta over the offseason and will likely begin the year in Triple-A Gwinnett once he's healthy.... See More ... See Less -
Braves' Kolby Allard: To start Grapefruit League opener
Allard will start Atlanta's Grapefruit League opener Saturday against the Red Sox, Justin Toscano of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports. Allard is currently buried on the rotation depth chart for the reigning NL East champions, but he can do his best to try to change that with a strong showing this spring. The 25-year-old former top prospect will lug a rough-looking 6.07 career major-league ERA into the 2023 campaign.... See More ... See Less -
Braves' Kolby Allard: Returns to Atlanta
Allard was traded from Texas to Atlanta on Wednesday in exchange for Jake Odorizzi and cash considerations. Allard made his big-league debut for Atlanta in 2018 before he was traded to Texas, and he'll now rejoin his former team. The left-hander appeared in 10 games out of the bullpen for the Rangers last year and had a 7.29 ERA, 1.29 WHIP and 19:6 K:BB across 21 innings. He also worked as a starter at Triple-A and had a 4.65 ERA over 89 frames (20 starts).... See More ... See Less -
Rangers' Kolby Allard: Joins team for doubleheader
Allard was recalled from Triple-A Round Rock and joined the Rangers as the team's 29th man for Tuesday's doubleheader against the Yankees. Allard has thrown 17 innings of relief at the big-league level this season, struggling to an 8.47 ERA. He's been better in 20 starts for Triple-A Round Rock, but his 4.65 ERA at that level isn't impressive, either. The Rangers haven't named a starter for the nightcap, so that job could go to Allard if he isn't needed in relief in the afternoon game.... See More ... See Less -
Rangers' Kolby Allard: Demoted to Round Rock
The Rangers optioned Allard to Triple-A Round Rock on Wednesday. While appearing in relief both of the past two days, Allard was pummeled for seven earned runs on five hits and one walk while recording only three outs. The Rangers called up A.J. Alexy from Triple-A Round Rock on Wednesday and will see if he can provide an upgrade over Allard as a multi-inning option out of the bullpen.... See More ... See Less -
Rangers' Kolby Allard: Gets call-up from Triple-A
Allard was recalled from Triple-A Round Rock on Monday, Levi Weaver of The Athletic reports. Allard spent several days with the Rangers prior to being sent down Sunday, but he didn't make any appearances during his stint in the big leagues. He'll rejoin the major-league bullpen after Dane Dunning (ankle) was placed on the 15-day injured list Monday. Over seven relief appearances for the Rangers this year, Allard has posted a 5.06 ERA and 1.06 WHIP in 16 innings.... See More ... See Less -
Rangers' Kolby Allard: Returns to Triple-A
Allard was optioned to Triple-A Round Rock on Sunday. Allard was called up from Triple-A on Wednesday and didn't make an appearance during his brief time with the big-league club. Matt Bush (forearm) was activated from the 15-day injured list in a corresponding move.... See More ... See Less -
Rangers' Kolby Allard: Back in majors
Allard was recalled from Triple-A Round Rock on Wednesday. Allard was demoted to Round Rock in mid-June and will return to the majors after allowing three earned runs and striking out 14 in 9.1 frames in the minors. The left-hander has appeared in seven games for the Rangers this year and has a 5.06 ERA, 1.06 WHIP and 12:3 K:BB over 16 innings.... See More ... See Less -
Rangers' Kolby Allard: Sent down Thursday
Allard was optioned to Triple-A Round Rock on Thursday. Allard spent just under two weeks on the major-league roster, and he allowed three runs in six innings over two outings while picking up a save during his time in the big leagues. The southpaw will head back to the minors after Jose Leclerc (elbow) was reinstated from the 60-day injured list.... See More ... See Less -
Rangers' Kolby Allard: Covers five frames
Allard allowed three earned runs on five hits and no walks while striking out four across five innings Thursday against the Astros. He did not factor into the decision. Allard entered the game to begin the fourth inning. He allowed a home run to the first batter he faced but then settled in until he allowed a two-run homer in his final frame of work. Allard has been used exclusively out of the bullpen this season, though he has recorded six or more outs in four of his seven appearances. He has a 5.06 ERA across 16 innings and has served up five home runs.... See More ... See Less -
Rangers' Kolby Allard: Picks up save
Allard struck out one over a scoreless inning to pick up his first save in an 8-6 extra-innings win over the White Sox on Sunday. Closer Joe Barlow had blown a save chance in the bottom of the 11th, which opened an opportunity for Allard, who had not pitched since being called up nine days ago. The left-hander opened the season in Texas, working as a stretched out, multi-inning reliever before being sent down to Triple-A Round Rock. Allard made a few starts for the Express, but is expected to return to a bullpen role in the majors.... See More ... See Less

Matt Gelb@MattGelb3H agoPhillies decided before they flew to London that J.T. Realmuto would have knee surgery this week. They brought an understudy with them to England to help the transition. There is no replacing Realmuto, but they're trying to do it in a calculated way: https://t.co/sGahgp46ff

Matt Gelb@MattGelb7H agoBrandon Marsh went to Reading and is working out with the Double-A club. Should appear in games there sometime this week. Trea Turner is ramping it up today. He could return this weekend, or Monday when the Phillies go home, Rob Thomson said.

Matt Gelb@MattGelb7H agoThe Phillies expect J.T. Realmuto to miss “about a month,” Dave Dombrowski said. He’s been playing with a small tear in his right meniscus. Realmuto thought he could push it but they decided to get the surgery done now.

Matt Gelb@MattGelb9H agoPhillies players often refer to J.T. Realmuto as the “backbone” of the team and, for an extended period here, they’ll have to do it without him. First update: https://t.co/hSknl0EBYB
-
Scott Lauber@ScottLauber10H agoWorth noting: The Phillies didn’t include a timetable for J.T. Realmuto’s return in their announcement about his meniscus repair. Not every meniscectomy is the same, and I’m not a doctor, but you typically hear about a 4-6-week recovery. Cristian Pache missed six weeks last year.

Scott Lauber@ScottLauber10H agoNot that it needs to be underscored, but wrote this in April about Realmuto’s place as the #Phillies’ most indispensable player. They’ll have to make do without him for a while now: https://t.co/RjlwicvT2s
