Giants' Gerson Bautista: Lands with Giants
Bautista has made three relief appearances for Triple-A Sacramento since signing a minor-league contract with the Giants on July 23, tossing three innings while giving up two earned runs on four hits and a walk while striking out three.
After he was cut loose by the Mariners in the spring, Bautista spent time in the Mexican League for a couple of months before getting another opportunity in affiliated ball with the Giants. The hard-throwing reliever made 13 appearances for the Mets and Mariners during 2018 and 2019, posting an 11.48 ERA.

Bautista was in camp on a minor-league deal, but struggled throughout the spring, posting a 5.06 ERA and 2.44 WHIP across 5.1 innings while striking out none and walking six. The 25-year-old will look to latch on with another team as bullpen depth.

Mariners' Gerson Bautista: Signs minors deal with Mariners
Bautista (elbow) agreed to a minor-league contract with the Mariners on Thursday, Corey Brock of The Athletic reports.
Bautista was with the Mariners organization for each of the last two seasons, though he didn't throw a pitch in 2020 as he missed the entire season with a flexor mass strain. He'll remain with the team in 2021, though he's giving up 17 runs in 13.1 career big-league innings, so he's unlikely to be a large part of Seattle's plans.

Gerson Bautista: Won't return to Seattle
The Mariners declared Bautista (elbow) a free agent Sunday, Chris Hilburn-Trenkle of Baseball America reports.
Bautista spent the entire 2020 season on the shelf after being shut down in summer camp with a strained left elbow. The Mariners cast Bautista off their 40-man roster Oct. 23, but he temporarily stuck around in the organization after going unclaimed off waivers. Seattle will now allow the reliever the opportunity to explore his options elsewhere this winter.

Bautista missed the entirety of the 2020 season after suffering a flexor mass strain in his elbow during summer camp. Bautista was removed from Saturday's intrasquad game by trainer Rob Nodine after appearing to sustain an elbow injury, Greg Johns of MLB.com reports.
Bautista came on for the fifth inning of the contest and clocked an impressive 101 mph on his fastball on a pitch fouled off by Jose Marmolejos. However, the reliever's velocity was down to 98 mph and 94 mph on his next two pitches, respectively, and the right-handed Bautista was seen pointing to his throwing elbow before being pulled. An update on Bautista's status may come Sunday.

Mariners' Gerson Bautista: Attends Peoria workout
Bautista was one of several players present for the re-start of workouts Tuesday at the Mariners' spring facility in Peoria, Arizona, Greg Johns of MLB.com reports.
Bautista was seemingly on his way to claiming a bullpen spot at the time spring training was suspended, so it's encouraging he took advantage of the first opportunity in over two months to attend some team-facilitated workouts. Players were only allowed to work in groups of three Tuesday, and Bautista and his fellow pitchers were able to engage in their throwing programs under staff supervision. The hard-throwing right-hander should eventually gain access to a bullpen mound as well while waiting to see if there will indeed be an abbreviated 2020 season to prepare for.

Mariners' Gerson Bautista: Dominating in spring
Bautista, who owns a 1.80 ERA and 0.20 WHIP across five innings over five Cactus League appearances, has caught the eye of manager Scott Servais with his performance this spring, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports. "Bautista continues to put together good outing after good outing and his confidence is just soaring, " Servais said. "He's carrying himself different."
The hard-throwing 24-year-old mostly shuttled between Triple-A Tacoma and the big-league club last season when healthy, generating an unsightly 11.00 ERA and 2.44 WHIP across nine innings over eight appearances with the Mariners. Bautista has taken full advantage of the clean start spring training affords, however, and given his high-90s fastball and improving slider, he could be making a case for some late-inning work alongside veteran Yoshihisa Hirano.

Bautista (0-1) took the loss Saturday, giving up three runs on two hits and three walks over two-thirds of an inning while striking out one in an 11-2 rout at the hands of the A's.
The right-hander couldn't find the plate as Seattle's opener, throwing only 13 of 28 pitches for strikes before the club was forced to turn to Wade LeBlanc a little earlier than expected. Bautista's 98 mph fastball is nice, but it's not very useful if he can't get it over the plate -- he now has an 11.25 ERA and 2:7 K:BB through four innings since coming off the IL.

Mariners' Gerson Bautista: Closing in on 2019 debut
Bautista (pectoral) is likely to make his season debut at the major-league level when his 30-day rehab assignment window expires late next week, Greg Johns of MLB.com reports. "He's coming along just fine," manager Scott Servais said. "He's throwing the ball really well. I think he's getting close to getting back here. I'd expect [him] to be back at end of Houston series or right when we go back on the road."
Bautista was impressive in his latest rehab appearance for Triple-A Tacoma, firing two scoreless innings in which he allowed a hit and a walk during a win over El Paso in the first game of a doubleheader Thursday. If the team's current plans hold, the hard-throwing right-hander would most likely be activated next Friday for the start of the team's next road trip.

Mariners' Gerson Bautista: Rehab stint nearing end
Bautista (pectoral), who has allowed five hits and two runs over four-plus innings during his rehab with Triple-A Tacoma, has only one week left on his 30-day rehab stint, Greg Johns of MLB.com reports.
The last day of the 30-day window for Bautista would be next Thursday, at which point the Mariners will presumably moved toward making a final decision on his activation and landing spot within the organization. Bautista had a rough introduction to the majors in 2018 with the Mets, generating a 12.46 ERA across 4.1 innings over five appearances. The 23-year-old right-hander could officially begin his season with Triple-A Tacoma, but a big-league bullpen assignment is certainly a possibility as well.

Mariners' Gerson Bautista: Transferred to 60-day IL
Bautista (pectoral) was transferred to the 60-day injured list Monday.
The move is purely procedural, as Bautista has already been on the injured list for more than 60 days, so he could theoretically return at any time. He's currently on a rehab assignment, so he may have to be added back to the 40-man roster at some point soon. Monday's transaction clears a spot on the 40-man roster for Jimmy Cordero, who was claimed off waivers from Toronto in a corresponding move.
