Petty (knee) is listed as the Jets' No. 2 quarterback on their depth chart heading into Sunday's season opener against the Bills, Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News reports.

Despite missing the preseason finale with a Grade 1 MCL sprain, Petty apparently did enough in training camp to edge ahead of Christian Hackenberg in the backup quarterback competition, but it may be a moot point if the knee injury ends up sidelining Petty for Week 1. However, with Petty unlikely to miss significant time, he'll bide his time for an opportunity to run the Jets' offense at some point this season, which is a distinct possibility given that 38-year-old starter Josh McCown is viewed as a stopgap solution at quarterback.
