Cates scored what turned out to be the game-winning goal in Tuesday's win against Florida.
It was just the second goal of the season for Cates and first since Oct. 24. A foot injury has limited him to 29 games this season. Even when playing, he has just six points on the campaign. It's been a notable drop-off from last year's rookie season of 13 goals and 38 points.
