Mitchell underwent scheduled surgery Tuesday to repair the labrum in his left shoulder, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports. Mitchell is likely done for the remainder of the 2023 season, though Brewers manager Craig Counsell said Thursday that there is a sliver of hope he could return late in the year. The 24-year-old injured his shoulder April 18 on a slide into third base. Joey Wiemer has been drawing the majority of starts in center field for Milwaukee in recent weeks.... See More ... See Less

Brewers' Garrett Mitchell: Heads to 60-day IL
The Brewers transferred Mitchell (shoulder) from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day IL on Sunday, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports. The transaction is a procedural move that clears up a spot on the 40-man roster for newly acquired reliever Trevor Megill. Mitchell is scheduled to undergo surgery on his left shoulder during the upcoming week, and while no timeline has been established for his return, he'll most likely miss the remainder of the season.... Brewers' Garrett Mitchell: Will undergo surgery
Mitchell will have surgery on his left shoulder after receiving a second opinion Tuesday, Sophia Minnaert of Bally Sports Wisconsin reports. After suffering significant damage to his labrum while sliding into third base last week against Seattle, Mitchell will now officially undergo surgery. The Brewers may not have a timeline for Mitchell's return until his surgery is completed, but the speedy center fielder will most likely miss the rest of the season, according to Adam McCalvy of MLB.com. Since Mitchell hurt his shoulder, Joey Wiemer has received the majority of reps in center field for Milwaukee, but that could change once Tyrone Taylor (elbow) and Sal Frelick (thumb) recover from their respective injuries.... Brewers' Garrett Mitchell: Could need shoulder surgery
Mitchell could be facing season-ending surgery on his left shoulder, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports. Mitchell was placed on the injured list Wednesday after dislocating his shoulder in multiple places Tuesday night against the Mariners. Imaging scans have since revealed significant damage to his labrum, and he will likely require a surgical repair. The 24-year-old outfielder is first seeking out a second opinion, but it seems like the writing is on the wall that his 2023 campaign is already over. Mitchell had posted a .772 OPS with three home runs and one stolen base through 16 games this year with the NL Central-leading Brewers. Joey Wiemer is expected to serve as the primary center fielder for Milwaukee, especially with Sal Frelick (thumb) just landing on the minor-league IL himself.... See More ... See Less -
Brewers' Garrett Mitchell: Getting MRI on injured shoulder
Mitchell will undergo an MRI on his injured left shoulder Thursday, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports. Mitchell was placed on the 10-day injured list Wednesday after suffering multiple left shoulder subluxations late in Tuesday's win over the Mariners. The upcoming imaging should help the Brewers get a better idea of the severity and might yield a projected timeline for the young outfielder's return. Joey Wiemer and Owen Miller are expected to be the primary options in center field while Mitchell is in recovery mode. Triple-A Nashville call-up Blake Perkins could factor into the outfield mix as well.... See More ... See Less -
Brewers' Garrett Mitchell: Lands on IL
The Brewers placed Mitchell on the 10-day injured list Wednesday with left shoulder subluxation, Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports. Mitchell was spotted earlier Wednesday sporting a sling on the shoulder, which he injured late in Tuesday's 11-inning victory over Seattle. His move to the IL thus comes as little surprise, though the Brewers haven't indicated whether Mitchell will be in store for a minimum-length stay on the shelf or a longer-term absence. Blake Perkins was called up from Triple-A Nashville in a corresponding move and could help fill Mitchell's vacated spot in the outfield along with utility man Owen Miller.... See More ... See Less -
Brewers' Garrett Mitchell: Wearing sling
Mitchell (shoulder) was spotted in the Brewers' clubhouse Wednesday wearing a sling on his left arm, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports. The rookie outfielder exited Tuesday's win over the Mariners with a left shoulder subluxation. The team is expected to provide more information on Mitchell's status later Wednesday, but the fact that he's sporting a sling suggests he could be a candidate to go on the 10-day injured list.... Brewers' Garrett Mitchell: Leaves with shoulder subluxation
Mitchell exited in the 10th inning of Tuesday's 6-5 win over Mariners with a shoulder subluxation, Todd Rosiak of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports. Mitchell left the contest after making a throw home in the bottom of the 10th. The outfielder appeared to pick up the injury after he banged into third base on a slide in the top of the frame. Mitchell is day-to-day and currently receiving treatment, but he'll almost certainly sit out Wednesday's series finale in Seattle. He went 0-for-4 with three strikeouts and a run prior to departing Tuesday's game.... See More ... See Less -
Brewers' Garrett Mitchell: Leaves with potential injury
Mitchell has left Tuesday's game against the Mariners in the bottom of the 10th with a potential injury, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports. Mitchell made hard contact into third base in the top of the inning, and he then left the game after making a throw home in the bottom of the 10th. Mike Brosseau has replaced Mitchell and taken over at third base with Brian Anderson moving to right field and Joey Wiemer now in center.... See More ... See Less -
Brewers' Garrett Mitchell: Scores lone run Sunday
Mitchell went 2-for-3 with a walk, a stolen base and a run scored in Sunday's 1-0 win over the Padres. Mitchell scored the Brewers' only run of the afternoon and it proved to be enough after Wade Miley fired seven shutout frames and the bullpen took care of the rest. The 24-year-old reached base in the second inning on a bunt single. A Yu Darvish balk got him over to second base and then he stole third before being driven home on a sacrifice fly to left field off the bat of Brian Anderson. It was Mitchell's first stolen base of the year, and plenty more should be expected after he had eight in just 28 games last season.... See More ... See Less -
Brewers' Garrett Mitchell: Out of lineup Friday
Mitchell is not in the lineup Friday against the Padres. Mitchell went 0-for-5 with two strikeouts in Thursday's series opener at San Diego, but he still holds a shiny .884 OPS through 46 total plate appearances on the year. This looks to be a routine day off. Joey Wiemer is starting in center field and batting ninth.... See More ... See Less -
Brewers' Garrett Mitchell: Walks it off against Mets
Mitchell went 1-for-2 with a walkoff solo home run in Wednesday's 7-6 win over the Mets. He wasn't in the starting lineup, but Mitchell came on as a pinch hitter for Mike Brosseau in the sixth inning and remained in the game, giving him a chance to play hero in the ninth. Mitchell is enjoying a great start to the season, batting .300 (6-for-20) through six games with three homers, five RBI and six runs, but the 24-year-old speedster hasn't stolen a base yet after going 8-for-8 on the basepaths last year in only 28 big-league games.... Brewers' Garrett Mitchell: Launches two homers
Mitchell went 2-for-4 with two solo home runs during Tuesday's 9-0 win over the Mets. The 24-year-old followed Rowdy Tellez's and Brian Anderson's homers during the sixth inning with one of his own, and Mitchell and Anderson teamed up again for back-to-back shots in the seventh. Mitchell isn't a major power threat and hit just seven long balls across 92 games between Double-A, Triple-A and the majors last season, but he can still provide enough pop to reach double-digit homers, assuming he's able to retain a regular spot in the lineup all season.... Brewers' Garrett Mitchell: Out of lineup
Mitchell will not start Saturday against the Cubs. Mitchell hit seventh and played center field on Opening Day but went 0-for-4 with a pair of strikeouts. Joey Wiemer will make his MLB debut in center field Saturday.... See More ... See Less -
Brewers' Garrett Mitchell: Returns to lineup Monday
Mitchell (hamstring) is back in the Brewers' lineup for Monday's Cactus League contest versus the Mariners. He'll start in center field and bat leadoff. Mitchell wound up missing a week and a half of action with right hamstring tightness. His offense is a work in progress, but he should be an asset in the stolen-base department for fantasy managers in 2023 as long as he's playing regularly, which appears to be the plan.... Brewers' Garrett Mitchell: Starts running again
Mitchell (hamstring) resumed running Monday but isn't expected to return to Cactus League games until this weekend, Sophia Minnaert of Bally Sports Wisconsin reports. The Brewers aren't overly concerned about the right hamstring tightness which forced Mitchell from a game last Thursday. However, he'll receive at least a week off just to be safe. If healthy, Mitchell looks to be the clear favorite to open the season as the Brewers' starting center fielder.... See More ... See Less -
Brewers' Garrett Mitchell: Doing well
Mitchell (hamstring) is doing well and should return to the lineup in about a week, Manny Randhawa of MLB.com reports. Mitchell left Thursday's game against the Giants due to right hamstring tightness, and while the injury will cost him some exhibition games, it looks like his readiness for Opening Day won't be affected. Mitchell hit .311 with eight stolen bases and a pair of home runs in 68 plate appearances as a rookie last year and appears set to open the year as Milwaukee's primary center fielder.... See More ... Brewers' Garrett Mitchell: No plans to undergo MRI
Mitchell (hamstring) is not expected to require an MRI, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports. Mitchell had to be lifted from Thursday's game versus the Giants because of right hamstring tightness, but all indications seem to be that the Brewers were simply being cautious. There still has to be some level of concern with his readiness for Opening Day, especially since Mitchell's legs are so important to his fantasy value, but for now he's considered day-to-day.... Brewers' Garrett Mitchell: Exits game early
Mitchell was removed from the Brewers' spring training game against the Giants on Thursday due to right hamstring tightness, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports. The team said taking Mitchell out of the game was mostly a precautionary move, so Mitchell's hamstring likely won't impact his availability for Opening Day. The speedy outfielder has had an impressive spring thus far, slashing .353/.353/.941 with three home runs and six RBI through 17 plate appearances.... See More ... See Less -
Brewers' Garrett Mitchell: Shows off power, speed
Mitchell went 2-for-4 a solo home run and a stolen base in Tuesday's win over the Diamondbacks. Mitchell got the start in center field Tuesday and capitalized by showing off both his power and his speed with a homer and a stolen base. The home run, a solo shot to right field to lead off the second inning, was his second of the season, and got the Brewers on the board. He also led off the sixth inning with a single and a stolen base base, his seventh of the season. In 64 plate appearances, the rookie has posted a strong .310/.365/.466 slash line.... See More ...
