Player Outlook
Arjun Nimmala struggled after an aggressive assignment to Single-A, where he was one of the youngest players and hit .167 with a 34.4 percent strikeout rate in 29 games before getting transferred to the development list for a few weeks. He then logged a 176 wRC+ with more walks than strikeouts and four extra-base hits in eight Florida Complex League games before returning to Single-A in late-June. From there, Nimmala slashed .265/.333/.555 with 13 home runs, six steals, a 6.8 percent walk rate and a 30.4 percent strikeout rate over his final 53 games. It's awfully rare for an 18-year-old shortstop to hit for that kind of power against full-season pitching, but obviously there's a lot of swing-and-miss still to clean up. Nimmala is still filling out his 6-foot-1, 170-pound frame, so he might offer 30-homer pop when it's all said and done. He's a boom-or-bust dynasty prospect, but the fact he's a high-pedigree shortstop (No. 20 overall pick in 2023, $3M bonus) who's already showing advanced game power gives him a path to everyday work even if he doesn't reach his ceiling as a hitter.

  • Blue Jays' Arjun Nimmala: Catching fire at Single-A

Nimmala has gone 11-for-39 over his last nine games for Single-A Dunedin with five home runs and 13 RBI. He doesn't turn 19 until October, but Nimmala is beginning to develop the power the Jays were hoping for when they selected him 20th overall in the 2023 Draft. The shortstop had a rough start to his first year of full-season ball, but since returning from a stint in the FCL to get his confidence back, Nimmala is slashing .257/.341/.629 in 28 games for Dunedin with six doubles, three triples and nine homers, albeit with a 31.7 percent strikeout rate.

  • Blue Jays' Arjun Nimmala: Sent to FCL

Single-A Dunedin activated Nimmala from its development list Monday and assigned him to the rookie-level Florida Complex League. Dunedin deactivated Nimmala on May 14 after the 18-year-old shortstop had slashed a lowly .167/.280/.306 over 125 plate appearances. He's presumably spent the last few weeks working on his swing at the Blue Jays' spring training complex and now appears ready to test himself in a game setting again. If Nimmala is able to quickly find success in the Complex League, he could soon be headed back to Dunedin.

  • Blue Jays' Arjun Nimmala: Moved to development list

Single-A Dunedin transferred Nimmala to the development list Tuesday. The 20th overall pick in last year's draft was overmatched at Single-A, as he was hitting .167 with 43 strikeouts in 29 games. Nimmala won't turn 19 until after the season, so he's got plenty of time to figure things out. The Jays could have assigned him to the Florida Complex League, but they presumably want to work on some things with him before he gets back into structured gameplay.
