After winning 73 games last season, it's crazy to think that the Golden State Warriors might have higher expectations this season, especially after blowing a 3-1 lead in the NBA Finals. But after adding Kevin Durant in free agency, there's of course been talk about whether the Warriors could actually be better this year.
Draymond Green did his part to dampen expectations, saying he doesn't "even want" to win 74 games, and now Steve Kerr added this on Saturday:
Kerr calls possibility of winning 74 games "incomprehensible," saying so many thing had to break right for 73 to happen. "I don't care if we added KD or Wilt Chamberlain"
I would object to the idea it's "incomprehensible," because of how easy they made it look last year. They lost several games because they were resting players, and even if they do that more this season, adding Durant enables them to do so and still win games. If they pop out on a huge winning streak like they did this year, and get within range of it, this team's DNA says they'll go for it.
It's true that a lot had to go their way, wins like the early season victory over the Nets when Brook Lopez missed a point blank layup, and how everything came together. But Harrison Barnes missed time. Andrew Bogut missed time. They added Durant, and they have great chemistry and continuity. Sure, it's unlikely they win that many, there's a reason they're the only team to ever do so. But incomprehensible?
It can happen, and honestly, if it does, you shouldn't be surprised.
