Kansas City Chiefs outside linebacker Justin Houston is working his way into the history books. Coming into Week 17, Houston needed at least 2.5 sacks to pass the late Derrick Thomas for Kansas City's single-season sack record. Thomas had 20 sacks in 1990, his second year in the NFL.
Early in the third quarter, Houston got his third sack of the day, giving him 21 on the season.

Houston's 21 sacks are tied with Chris Doleman and Reggie White for fourth all-time and leave him 1.5 short of Michael Strahan's all-time single-season NFL record of 22.5 sacks. Only Strahan, Jared Allen and Mark Gastineau have ever reached 22 sacks in a season.
UPDATE (4:25 PM Eastern): Houston sacked Philip Rivers again late in the fourth quarter. He finished with 22 sacks on the season, 0.5 short of Michael Strahan's NFL record.
