Daniel Tosh decided to create a running bit where he raises money for his friend Andy Ritchie's cancer treatment ... and then bets on sports to double the money.

Tosh, a huge Miami Dolphins fan, bet against his team on Thursday night, wagering $25,000 on the Patriots -3.5 in the first half of Thursday Night Football

"Once I double it, [Ritchie] can do whatever he wants with it; go on a lion-hunting safari or get treatment," said Tosh.

Tosh was confident in his pick and who can blame him -- he's seen the Dolphins play. He's no fool. He won. Handily, with the Pats up 19-0 at halftime.

Unfortunately for Tosh, things only got worse for the Dolphins, who were the latest team not to beat the Patriots after trailing at half at Gillette.

Charlie Siskel, Tosh.0 producer, told The Hollywood Reporter they are doing the Dolphins-Pats bet thing as "a bit" but are very much committed to raising money to help Ritchie fight cancer.

"It is a bit for the show as we are doing it for comedy, but it is also real," says Siskel. "If we win, yes, the plan is to contribute it to Andy, who's in a rough spot."

And people say gambling is a vice.
